I just ran across something interesting and thought about your observation on the color of the decal.

In the 1981 Flat Top catalog they specifically refer to the PB80 having a silver logo rather than gold like lower models. Never noticed that before.


"PB80 has added a number minor changes and finally revived as a perfect old replica model. Newly developed old type pegs, spiral bridge, alder body, silver type logo, etc. are perfect in detall. It perfectly reproduces the old-fashioned feeling from the '50s to the '60s. Interesting! Maybe it was a higher end thing then. I know my 87 ST45 decal is very gold!

Edit: actually all the 82/83 logos to that I've seen are more silvery than the later ones so can't be related to model spec.
