    Interesting Tokai Harmony Central thread

I've had both brands (Gibson and Tokai). Tokais from 1979 until present and Gibsons from the '60s up to the current CS/Historic stuff. What I can say is the current Gibson Historic is top notch period. But it does not come cheap. Some of the Tokais come close and are better bang for the buck...

    binding on LS 380

I guess my point is that if I paid the going price for an LS-380 I would expect it to have the fret edge binding. Not because of playability as the longer frets are arguably better in that respect, but as part of the whole "replica" detail accuracy.

    binding on LS 380

The reason why the top end guitars have fret edge binding is that they are replicas, and the originals they are copying have fret edge binding. Its more expensive (labor intensive) to do and looks "correct".

Sell your vintage Tokai Les Pauls and Buy Gibson Historics

I agree, some of the early Historics were wonderful, especially some of the Murphy guitars. All of the Tokais I've owned have been very good weight around 9 lbs. Not bad but not featherweight by any means. That does not mean featherweight Tokais don't exist, I just have not personally come...

Sell your vintage Tokai Les Pauls and Buy Gibson Historics

I know this is the wrong forum to state this, but here it goes. I've owned alot of different guitars over the years, including quite a few early Tokais. Bang for the buck the old Tokais are the best I've found, hands down. I'd also agree Gibson has not always made premium guitars over the...

Correct Case for 1980 Reborn Old?

All the LS-100 and above I've persoanlly seen have the brown "Lifton" clone case and all the LS-80 and below have the black with green lining as described, that I've seen anyway. :)

1980 Tokai Love Rock LS-80 Parts WANTED

PM me if you decide to sell them. To me, they are a bit hot/bright (at about 8.6K mine anyways), not a classic warm vintage tone but not bad either, and they look a bit odd with the 2x row adjustable pole pieces, but that's what they came with...

1980 Tokai Love Rock LS-80 Parts WANTED

    1979-1980 Pickups

The (stock?) pickups in the guitar (1980 LS-80) are GOTO zebra PAFs - way too hot (8.61k N & 8.64k B) IMO, and the look of the double-row of adjustable polepieces is just wrong (should be one row slotted and one row flat slugs), but I believe they might be originals after doing some research...

1980 Tokai Love Rock LS-80 Parts WANTED

Yep. Everything seems original except the bridge. The bridge is very close from an early Gibson except the wire retainer (I enlarged the mounting holes slightly to the size of the Gotoh). Its a really fine guitar, very lightweight compared to others from this era I've played. I like the...

    1979-1980 Pickups

What is the correct pickup for a 1979-1980 year Les Paul Reborn, Reborn Old, or Love Rock Model LS-80? I've seen chrome covered with no baseplate markings and GOTO Patent Applied For (both bobbins have adjustable polepieces, usually zebra coils). I've seen DiMarzio "double cremes" on the...

1980 Tokai Love Rock LS-80 Parts WANTED

I'm looking for a correct bridge and stop tailpiece for a 1980 Love Rock. Any original pickups from this era would be a bonus and considered as well. Anyone have parts from a broken or upgraded guitar to sell in any condition, as long as they are original. Please help.
