Ike Turner - Rocket 88

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gbfnh1oVTk0

Arguably the first ever rock 'n roll record was Rocket 88 from 1951. The track was credited to Jackie Brenston, the sax player in Ike's band, though it should really have gone out as Ike Turner & The Kings of Rhythm.

OK, Ike maybe wasn't the nicest man ever to walk the earth, but he was streets ahead of most other guitarists in the early 50s, and hugely influential on later players.

Ike also played lead guitar on some of the earliest Otis Rush tracks, though he is rarely credited with this.

RIP to one of the leading figures in blues & rock n' roll.

"Lightnin" - an instrumental from Santana's 1983 Havana Moon - Backed up by the Fabulous Thunderbirds - all of them.

Just found it on iTunes and it rocks.

Payback - Tad Robinson Band with Alex Schultz on guitar.

Alex used to be in The Mighty Flyers with Rod Piazza, in case the name sounds familiar. Brilliant guitarist, especially when you consider that he was mainly a bass player for years.....

It's just not fair is it?

Here's Alex Schultz rehearsing with the late Lester Butler of the Red Devils - he sounds pretty good on that Strat during his lead break at about 2 1/2 minutes in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvdKV7vUN9A
