Here thanks to Mikes help is my new Goldstar ST60.This is an interesting guitar for several reasons.Firstly it has factory fitted E pickups, and a 4 digit serial number, secondly it has a flamed maple V neck and a round string tree, features normally found on a Springy St80.As you can see this is beautiful guitar, and all original I`m really pleased with her.Does anyone else have an st60,so I can compare specs?Gabe.

It's a nice one. The neck feels very close in profile to my ST80, & it isn't nearly as shiny & glossy as the green ST55 I sold a few months back. But it doesn't seem to be nitro, just a more matt poly than usual on maple Goldies. Not sure why that should be though.

Still, it's a rare find, we hardly ever see Goldies above ST55 level, & this one has the sticker. :p If only a few more owners had left them on.

Gabe, did you decide it was ash (sen) or alder?

I`m pretty certain this is alder Mike and I`ve no doubt this contributes to the healthy dose of midrange this guitar posseses.Ash body, maple neck,E pickups, might be a little on the trebly side, but the alder body may mellow things out a little.I have sometimes found that a rosewood, especially slab board neck, combined with an alder body and powerful pickups can lead to a rather mushy and dark sounding guitar. My other main guitar is an ash bodied rosewood lam neckst55 with medium hot ESP 80`s vintage pickups, and that too has a good midrange to treble balance, due perhaps to the balance of the different tonal elements complementing each other.Gabe.

That makes sense, the Es do sound better in your ST60 than mine did in my sen ST80. That needed some fatter sounding pickups to bring out it's best.

Here's my ST-60 It has E pickups, a 4 digit serial # and a maple V-neck. It's very high quality, like my 1980 ST-80. http://s710.photobucket.com/albums/ww108/markgharp/Tokai%20Goldstar%20ST-60/

My 1981 ST-70 has the "E" pickups as well, i don't really like the bridge pickup but i barely ever use it, not too sure what it is, ash or alder?
I can't find the email with the specs from Tokai, maybe Joe remembers?

Hi Gabe, mine has a laminate maple board with no skunk stripe, not too sure if thats the only difference as its the only "real" {almost} strat i have ever owned, have had a couple of super strats but nothing close to the real thing.
