Hi, I’m new here I just purchased a Metalic Red Tokai with Rosewood fretboard. The serial number is 11612. What year would it fall under? I’ll be able to give more information when I take possession of the guitar. I do know that is has a very highly flam neck.
Thank you

What sort of guitar are you talking about? Pictures?

5 digit serial number indicates a maple neck ST, TE , or a PB80 Hard Puncher bass, or an SS70S Limited made between 1982 and 1986. Some odd Goldstars as well.

That serial number should be from 1982/83.

I see it now.

Looks like a Goldstar with its decal removed & a graphite nut?

What pickups are in it?

If you can post pictures showing the electronics and any codes in the cavities, end of the neck, on the pots, and on the side of the switch that would help a lot.

Thanks. It would really help us in untangling some things.

Depending on the month and where it was sold that can affect which decal it likely had on it.

I think it’s a really cool project. I am curious were the flame necks put on randomly or were they saved for the premium versions? Thanks

They are uncommon but I have seen them on 50/60 level guitars. Usually not completely flamed.

1978-1982 the ST100 sometimes had insanely flamed necks. I have a 1979 ST100 with incredible flame all over it.

By the time your guitar was made they weren’t looking for it for particular models, so it probably just showed up in the blanks they were using is my guess.

Kind of hilarious to see all the opinions on this guitar on FB.

Looking forward to seeing pictures under the hood & in the neck pocket.

I just got here in today. Here are some additional pictures.

Great.

7=3 on the neck and body says it all goes together so it’s not a partscaster and it is all Tokai.

It also means it was made in July. I would say July 1983 given the serial number and U pickups.

So it’s a 1983 TST50 MRR Goldstar it would seem.

By July the Goldstar decal would be the modern one with the phrase “The Quality Musical Instruments of the World”.

Nice guitar.

Oh, and the switch has been replaced in addition to the nut.

You are welcome. There will always be a bit of mystery with Tokais, but that gets you close.
