Very nice one, this, quite a looker. Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock, i e with two 5k JPY custom options ... but still with a 40 sticker, for some reason. Nice condition under a layer of dirt. The pots and jack needed replacement though, they were seized up and rusty, I guess someone spilled a beer over the bass at some point. The pickup was fine, though.

LB colour code in the body. The P before the neck code is interesting. You would likely need to mark the neck to tell the paintshop to paint the headstock, but if so, why P? It doesn't line up with any colour code I know of?

Original pots. Rubber-stamped tech info, no date codes. expected for 1981. Note the rust and oxidation, these were silent, immovable and beyond resurrection. The brass plate cleaned up well, though.

Makes a nice comparison with another similiar 1981 MIJ PB, a Greco PB-500 in what appears to be Ocean Turqoise with matching headstock. It's nowhere near any official catalog finish spec, so it't either a custom order or part of some store run batch. Another great instrument, though.

Well, both P for "paint" and H for ""headstock" kind of makes sense... but there is no info on which colour to use?? I mean, if the neck was marked "LBP" or "LBH" there'd be basically no question. Unless the body and the neck were passed on to the paint shop together?
Pretty sure we'll never know, though.

I think this is what happened. These were special orders.
