    1985 ls60/80

Ok I bought this guitar some time ago from a forum member and at that time he advertised it as an LS80 (with some agreement from other forum members). But I know now that 1985 was a strange year for Tokai and I discovered very soon that this couldn't be an LS80. However it also has features that...

UES120 rare with factory US bigsby 2003

I wonder if there is any interest in my lovely ES-120. I really don't think there are many with a factory US bigsby around. I certainly haven't seen another. The 120's of this period are fairly highly specced and this one hasn't been altered. It has a beautiful flame maple top and back with a...

Super rare ES-120 2003 with factory Bigsby

Well, I have to consider selling one of my Tokai's to fund another purchase and I have a few semi's so this may be the one that I have to part with. It is a pretty rare beast. I love a bigsby on a 335 so was amazed when I found this one. It is as you probably know a '59 335 copy. It has a...

TO-KAI or not TO-KAI that is the question !!!!

As we all know 85 was a funny year for Tokai, but the pcb in this looks exactly like the one I took out of my 85 Ls. I am guessing that some people think there is enough visually, to confirm it's worth a punt. Looks like it might have FEB and the pickups are the same as mine. It's not got the...

    NOT WOOD ITS FIBREGLASS

I saw this and thought he must be nuts. Doubted myself and googled fibreglass/resin tokai's and got nothing. The case looks like a tokai and although I can't see the screws on the TRC it might be a MIJ model. Lots of people have spotted it I think steve

    another 1985 mystery LS

Had a look and I think it's an LS60. Here is the spec (i think). Veneer flame top, 2 piece back (makes me think mine is one piece having seen it). Neck pick up I don't think is original, bridge pick up is tokai 57 PAF and it is a poly finish. Looks very good and plays well. Really wanted the...

    another 1985 mystery LS

By the way Barks this one is in Wakefield....so close to you I guess. Small world for '85 tokais

    another 1985 mystery LS

As you guys might know I, like Barks and Martin, have an 85 LS60/80 hybrid mine having 18 degree headstock and 57 PAF pickups. It doesn't have feb or as far as I can tell with my nail varnish remover, a nitro finish. It's a plain top with export dimple. The lack of nitro has upset me much more...

    another 1985 mystery LS

No dimple on the headstock so not an export model. I'll be checking for nitro and looking closely at that top

    another 1985 mystery LS

Hi Chaps, I'm going to have a look at this 1985 LS tomorrow it has an 85 serial number and a nice flame top which may or may not be a solid top. Only thing that is throwing me at the moment is the seeming lack of FEB on what looks like could be an LS80 or higher (current owner seems to think it...

Looking for some help Identifying this Tokai guitar

The debate over model id's of 85's seems to run and run. It would seem that there a lot of Love rock's from that year with specs that vary from what we expect. I always thought that the clearest identification spec of LS80's and above was the neck break angle (18 degrees) and possibly the pick...

    Ls80 ground wire

Ok looks like panic is over...this is what I did: the wire had obviously come away right at the bushing. I saw a method for gently lifting out a bushing by putting a small flat ended screw or bolt into the bushing hole and gently screwing in the tailpiece bolt so that it pushes against the...

    Ls80 ground wire

My 1980 ls80 developed an earth hum that I quickly tracked down to a broken earth wire that seems to have cleanly broken between the pot and the bridge or tailpiece. Does any body know where the earth attaches to... The bridge has no bushings so I presume it attaches to the tailpiece bushings...

cts pots on an '85 LS80

Thanks..good advice all round. I'll go with alpha's first and move to cts if they don't suit. I can keep the pcb complete for the sake of reversability

cts pots on an '85 LS80

I knew the alpha pots would fit and I know there has been lots of discussion about the merits of CTS, stiffness etc but wasn't sure if the alpha pots would be significantly different than what's there already...the pcb just doesn't seem right though...and the original pots don't feel very...

cts pots on an '85 LS80

Thanks for the speedy reply Mike ...I knew I'd get a definitive answer on this one :D I think I'll just wait and see.... some ideas just go away if you ignore them for long enough

cts pots on an '85 LS80

I know this has been discussed and some people hate CTS pots but just to try to clarify a couple of things, in case I want to go with'50's wiring Can you fit them without changing existing knobs or enlarging holes Is it a good idea to remove the pcb from what is I suppose a vintage tokai...

    FS: 1985 Tokai LS80

I've had the guitar now for a couple of days and couldn't be more impressed. Not my first MIJ but my first Tokai and it's fantastic. Hard to believe it's a 25 year old guitar and the set up it arrived with is a credit to Paul. thanks for putting up with my dithering

    FS 1981 matsumoko epiphone casino

this is the guitar that started me on the MIJ path. It's a pretty rare epiphone casino made in the almost legendary matsumoko factory. As most people know these days these casinos are very close to the original usa models in terms of structure and detail and a world away from the korean and...

So not fair! ... Those who prey on Ebay X(

Buying and selling is what we all do...some of us just to fund our buying habit and also because the prices just keep going up on what seems a daily basis we expect to maybe sell at more than we bought. If I have a gripe it's possibly when a dealer "informs" an ebay seller that the guitar they...
