There is no question, this forum is done

I realize Ned's been working hard for many years on this site. I can't take that away from him. And I can't claim to understand his legal situation. But, it now looks like administrator god complex just kicked in. Ned is now deleting posts that simply reference posts on the new AlmostTokai...

Hey guys - what exactly is / was this ?

My history here is somewhat known, my comments on Canadian Fakai on record, and I have nothing but respect and gratitude for Ozeshin and Mick. But let us continue to be careful and rational here. Where the buyer is from, does not establish where the seller on eBay is from. We don't know who...

    "Make in Korea" HELP!

Yes, when that poster originally posted pics, he didn't have headstock pics. I asked him to post those and he did. It is clearly a Fakai. I've actually let him know about that by private email a couple of days ago; no response and he hasn't changed the ad. But I think he genuinely didn't...

Help with info on a mystery Profile Made in Japan guitar

Ozeshin, are you referring to the guitar in my original post pictures or another post in this thread? Because I went to see the guitar tonight and just as japanstrat said, it has a Made In Japan on the rear of the guitar on the neck plate. Are people really likely to fake something as obscure...

Help with info on a mystery Profile Made in Japan guitar

Japanstrat, that very very helpful, thank you. I am going to go see and play it today. One question: how is the truss rod adjusted on this one? I don't see the normal strat head adjustment access.

Help with info on a mystery Profile Made in Japan guitar

That's very helpful. I am having trouble finding those on a eBay UK search ("profile" is such a non-unique word to search for). Would you happen to have links to the 3 above? Thanks very much, Lexx

Help with info on a mystery Profile Made in Japan guitar

There is a seller near my location selling the pictured guitar. It's apparently a "Profile" brand and is apparently Made in Japan. Does anyone know anything at all about this guitar? Is it any good? Anything to watch out for? Any idea on value? Any info at all would be very much...

New Tokai Owner - Urgent Help Please!!

    That's an interesting question. So is my 2001 LS75Q about equivalent to a 2009 LS100Q? http://www1.odn.ne.jp/tokaigakki/products/vintage/ls100qmatt.html

    100,000th post

Yes, I can see how this could be tricky. I am a geek, so here goes ... the phpBB forum software viewtopic.php function can take a p= parameter and the number appears to be an internal post number. But, it doesn't seem to match the post count on the front page. For example, the following tag...

    100,000th post

Looking at the bottom, I see: "Our users have posted a total of 99919 articles". There should be a free MIJ Tokai for the 100,000th post. How about it, Ned? :-)

    Another Tokai convention?

Considering I am in Canada, maybe I should organize a Fakai convention

Cool. It's almost as if there is a kind of genuine Tokai Registry or something happening here :P

New Tokai Owner - Urgent Help Please!!

Only other thing I can think of is that apparently the plastic covers on the on the back are originally black on genuine Tokai and have been cream coloured on some fakes. Also, my original pickups say Made in Japan on theback, if you can get at them. But as you're going to be at least the 3rd...

New Tokai Owner - Urgent Help Please!!

My 2001 LS75Q MIJ doesn't say Made in Japan either on the back of the headstock. The number of digits in the serial number is the same. The shape of the headstock is the same. Position of the control knobs is the same. The only difference I see is the truss rod cover -- mine is two screw as...

    N.G.D.

Notwithstanding that the Fakais in question are actually generally good guitars, I do agree with the sentiment. Besides the initial fraud, because of the volume of guitars made and sold, the economic and ruined relationship impact of the used sales market is huge. Even though the deed is done...

    Fakai

Actually, interestingly, I kind of think that this fiasco *increases* the value of genuine Tokai. 2003-2005 MIK Tokai are so rarely genuine, it seems, that a real one of those would very much be a rare collectors item. Of course it does increase confusion in the market ...
