Identification of a Tokai SG please (Photos) i think is fake

Marcus, Holy crap! Well that incident would make me a little gunshy of scarf-jointed headstocks, too! :) I wonder if it was just a bad glue day at the factory? Jim

Identification of a Tokai SG please (Photos) i think is fake

Are you sure about that? Technically the headstock-end scarf joint is stronger than a neck cut from one piece of wood, there's no cross grain at that "nasty point" with the scarf joint. That and the fact that a glue join is stronger than the wood in the first place. I don't think those necks...

    Tokai LP Specials

That's too bad, although in a way it's kind of cool. You'll know that your Special wasn't a conveyor belt, cookie cutter, assembly line guitar! :) Jim

    Tokai LP Specials

Hey Roe, What's the delay? On Tokai's end? Jim

    Tokai LP Specials

Wow, this is an old thread! :) Roe, let us know what you think of your Special! I eventually went with a Gibson Historic Special and it's my favourite guitar. I also bought one of togps' compensated aluminum tailpiece through the NA distributor and it was the final ingredient in making it a...

Rickenbacker copies on ebay--pool on how long they'll last??

No, it's "coming out of the gate" with an attitude. And you did. I like this forum because it's one of the most civil on the net so I won't say any more about it. Jim

Rickenbacker copies on ebay--pool on how long they'll last??

Re-read the thread, I stand by my statement. If I recall correctly that was posted back when you were brand new to the forum and people (who had been members for a long time before that), asked you some questions. You came off like you had a chip on your shoulder. Jim

In all fairness you did come off like a bit of a dick. Jim

    SG 90D

****, I might have to get one of those. Did you get it from togps? I haven't seen that model in any catalogue... Jim

    SG 90D

That does look tasty! Now get that plastic off that pickguard! :) Jim

    UK 'dimple'

OK, I chose not to apply Clearasil to mine then. :) Jim

    SG 90D

One piece body, too, eh!? Wow, that doesn't seem to be typical of "lower end" Tokais. Although 90,000 Yen isn't a very low end price... Nice guitar! On the bridge - I just bought one of those from Togps' N. American distributor for my LP Special. Great bridge! Jim

    UK 'dimple'

I have a TJ60 that I contemplated "De-dimpling" at one time. :) I'm glad that I got over it and never made the attempt as odds are I would have totally 'effed it up. It doesn't bother me in the slightest now! Now an Epiphone? I'd take a coping saw to that ugly monstrosity in a second! :) Jim

    SG 90D

Nice!!! I love the small guard SG Junior look! How many pieces of wood in that body? One piece neck? It's nice to see that they've changed the wraparound tailpiece to ones compensated for an unwound G as well. Jim

Newbie, should I buy this TV Yellow Jr.?

I've got one and it's great! That one looks cooler than mine - mine has a very visible three-piece body. For that price I'd grab it. Jim

    Using a Treble Booster

Hi Barry, I experimented with treble boosters a lot a couple years ago but haven't really used any recently. It's true that they are very amp particular, but I've always had good luck with the old-style Marshall circuit. I'm surprised the Super PA didn't work out for you. I know what you're...

    Where's my sustain?

As mentioned, raising the action can make a huge difference. I bought a Gibson LP Special last summer and it was way less lively-sounding than my Tokai Junior. I raised the action up some and it started vibrating like a tuning fork. Me likey. :) Jim

    Tokai LS145S + Gibson P90s = Gibson 1956 reissue ????

togps What kind of tailpiece is that on the Special? I haven't seen that model before... I ended up buying a Gibson Historic Special - sacrilige I know! The sad thing is it cost me less than an LSS175 would have. :) Jim
