Oh and to be clear, the neck code is not on that 7-piece neck which is currently on the full shots of the guitar. That stamp is on the neck it originally came with. Sorry for the confusion! The original neck it came with is now on this.

Is that the neck that was on the other guitar? With that licking nut?

Were you asking about these a while back? The Springy version.

Yup I did a post about the Springy EVH. And yes the whole ST-100 had been floyd rosed. Been working on this for a long while. Slowly putting it back to stock. Thankfully it was only the small screw floyd post. So a small dowel fill and then I faux finish painted over the dowels to match it to the body. Pretty much made it dissappear. Then the hunt for original parts began. In a way I am greatful the past owner modded a st-50 or 60 neck and did not put a Floyd nut on an actual ST-100 neck. My guess is, if they were a shredder, they did not like the V profile neck on the st-100.

Now in a fantasy world, how cool would it be if Shoehi Adachi modded this ST-100 to Floyd at the factory, and then signed it to show it was official, lol!! (Slim chance!)

OK... I think I am understanding whree you are coming from now.

Tokia experts, what did I buy? Crazy rare Mary Kay ST-100?

Avert your eyes purists, this may be painful.

Take a guess! What did I just buy? (Not in my possession yet.) Could it be a heavily modded, stupidly rare, ST-100 Mary Kay spec Springy Sound from 1980? (I actually don't know. I took a risk on this one.)

(For those that don't know, a Tokai ST100 would be the top of the line 'Springy Sound' Stratocaster they made in the early 80's. ST100 means it cost 100,000 yen, which is $1000 in usd- in 1980. Which is about $3174 in today dollars. Very few examples out there.

These are the only pics I have. On-line sale. Seller knows nothing about it. No pics in neck pocket or under pickguard. A leap of faith my friends.

Obviously modded a long time ago- but at least not by me! I know it is sacrilege, and I would NEVER, EVER have done this if it really is a st-100. (But you can bet I will play the hell out of it. (And if it is a st-100, ponder returning it to stock, so much as is possible.)) Alas, these mods are early 80's, scary things happened to beautiful guitars back then.

All I know:
-Neck plate Serial 00001XX ( An early 1980 Springy.)
-Trans Blonde finish
-Ash body (Does that look like one piece?) Praying the routing isn't too bad.
-Single ply 8-hole pickguard
-Am I crazy or is some of the hardware, screws, string tree and maybe even the neck plate gold? (Not the boat jack, but I could see someone replacing that to match the chrome bridge/tuners.)

The mods that I can see-
-FRT5 Floyd Rose (Guessing 85, maybe 84. Early.)
-1970's Gibson USA Mini Humbucker in the bridge. (How cool!)
-Seymour Duncan Classic Stacks (early 80's rare emboss covers.) Thankfully not active PUs, so no battery rout under there at least. But they are double stacks and if they were too tall, they may have routed the depth and the body stamps. Yikes! But the neck pocket will at least tell us if it is Tokai.
-Schaller mini tuners

So if I have done my homework, in 1980 the Trans Blonde finish was only an option on st-80 and st100. Gold hardware only came on the ST-100. (There was no ST-120 in 1980.) So if it is Blonde with gold hardware it has to be a ST-100! OR...
...it is a parts caster and the body doesn't belong with the neck. Place your bets! Will know in about a week.

So now I understand the journey you are on. Well worth it.

And the pickups you got with it probably offset the cost some?

The body is amazing even with the rout, and the neck works great on the bumble bee you put together.

Good job!

That ST100 is only 4 digits from my ST100.The body codes are the same and the neck not match with the body. Also no markings in the control cavity.View attachment 10611View attachment 10608View attachment 10609View attachment 10610
Woah this is getting interesting. Siblings for sure. Your neck appears to be a A stamp V profile. Probably nitro too. If it were C shape and not nitro, I'd start to think mine left the factory with the neck i bought it with! My guitar was modded in about 1984-85, dated because of that particular Floyd Rose. I always found it odd that someone in 84 would source a second Tokai Neck to mod and preserve the original St-100 neck. Especially if they were modding the body anyway. You'd think they'd just find any neck to mod. Maybe even a Fender Strat, you know, so they could pretend it was a real Fender. I bought my guitar from Goodwill. Yup crazy I know. But it was in the USA and finding spare Tokai necks in the USA in 1984-85 can't have been too easy.

Indeed. The plan was to do a whole post about the journey of this guitar from the Goodwill Store floyd mod- back to original form, once finished. (Though I will probably never fill the Mini humbucker route.) Better Pics of when it arrived to me.

You should do that when you get it to where you want it.

I had a similar experience years ago with a butchered Ibanez. Very rare early Artist guitar, 1977 2619, with some early Gibson clear bobbin P90 pickups (which I sold to fund the whole thing) and crazy wiring and body routs. So I get it.

Thanks for sharing. Great pics by the way.

Thanks for keeping your eyes out!! Saw this the moment it was listed (I look every day still, lol!!) So what do you think, there is no stamp on the heel. But it sure looks correct for my guitar. And I sure see a 100 there. Is it legit in your opinion?

Was brought to my attention it could be a refret and refinish. Which would explain some things Like the missing stamp and hard to read '100'.

I don't know about re-finish, pencil mark still in tact, but it's clear that it reacted to the body it was attached to at some point in the past, or that is a sloppy body re-paint. No telling if it was the one it was later mated to? Looks legit to me. By the way, I have a 1979 ST100 with nickel hardware.
