Oh that missing screw. Were you able to pull one of the others and get the correct thread/pitch?

Would hate to strip the threads. Those tuners kind of make that model what it is.

I would assume they are metric and not standard measurement since they are Japanese.

Took the neck off, it is indeed 1=13 (I think)
As for the tuners, I ordered the screws from allparts as i assumed it would fit, I think it says 9.5mm, so I'll measure one of the existing ones

There you go... As suspected, January 1983.

So you can take some comfort in that the guitar was made in part in 1982. The pots were and probably the rest of the hardware and some of the processing.

Then it was completed in January of 1983.

I was able to fit a screw from.my navigator bass and take it to rehearsal. The bandmates asked if it was a real tokai. Sounded good but a bit to deep and bassy. I'll set it up as I just put on some new strings

Tuners arrived and as usual they don't fit. It seems the original and navigator are 4.86mm in screw diameter and the allparts are 5.36mm. Any advice where I can find the right one? Otherwise I'll probably just wait until I can get a single gotoh tuner for cheap

I am not sure where you could find that. I recommend contacting Faber Germany. They do modern parts for vintage Tokais. He may have an idea for sourcing that screw?

I'm not sure. Definitely worth looking into. The 4 hole GOTOH bass tuners I see on line say GOTOH on the gear.

Maybe also ask on a bass forum?

I don't really play bass, but I have had to rebuild Velve Tune tuners on an Ibanez bass before and it can be a trick to find the right parts.

Tuners are under a lot of pressure on a bass.

I'm also pretty sure a gotoh part would fit, navigator usually use gotoh for their hardware and it fit. I managed to find a single gotoh tuner used in the market for under £10, so I'll get that and fit the screw

If anyone is looking for these parts on eBay, make sure you have the part numbers and their values correct. I tried wading that minefield and didn’t know who to trust. Guitartrade in Australia is a Gotoh distributor, reference to parts is made super simple there as they show them clearly.
I’m a modder of my gear and find that this means I don’t have the headaches.
There’s bound to be distributors all over the world but it’s easily accessible this way, and I’m very partial to the Gotoh hardware.
