And Fenders are weird. They do the banana thing. I had always heard it was an aging issue of the finish, but maybe not?

I had one of those from the Fullerton/Corona transition period.

I always thought the “BS/brown sunburst” on LS guitars was an odd finish choice. Never seen a real vintage 50s Les Paul with such a finish.
 
Yeah, that was one of their first finishes.

I guess a swing at a Tobacco Sunburst?

I figured tobacco burst, but the back on my LS80 is super dark. Like dark chocolate brown.
 
Yeah. My 1979 LS80GT is really dark on the back. Really hard to see the wood grain.

Expanding on the notion of what we have been call=ing vintage. It is now 2023, so 1987 seems vintage to me.
