Hi All

I am looking to buy an ES model and looking for some confirmation of my understanding of ES type model numbers. I understand that the model number is a reflection of price and that e.g. an older ES100 may have the same spec as an ES120.

As far as I can see there are 5 main differences between ES models.

Plain or flame body
Block or dot inlay
Mahogany or Honduras Mahogany neck
Full nitro or nitro on poly finish

So a top spec ES would be flame top, 100% nitro, block inlay, honduras neck. Other than that the ES models all look to be pretty similar.

Can anybody tell me if this is right?
.
Also - can anybody offer comments on the value of the honduras neck in terms of playability or tone?

I am on the hunt for a good spec ES if anybody has one that they are selling.

Many thanks in advance.

The top ES model is an ES185.
Honduras neck, flamed top, back and sides, nitro.
The usual Premium Series specs, etc, etc.
It does not have block inlays, it has dots.

Next is the ES160.
Flamed, nitro, block inlays, Premium Series specs.

Then the ES155.
Flamed, nitro, Vintage Series specs.

Finally, ES135.
Poly, plain maple not flamed, Vintage Series specs.
