Regarding Dimarzio VS-1 pickups, my Goldstar Sound ST-80 from 1984 has got these. They have distinct appearance, made of black fiberboard or something. One close up with cover removed - you can see "DIMARZIO U.S.A." there.

Edit: picture here, for some reason posting pictures doesn't appear to work.

Rare MB Headstock Strat-Can I learn more about this please?

Two 84 Goldstar St 80s.
http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=156227&highlight=#156227

http://brochures.yokochou.com/guitar-and-amp/tokai/1984/en_05.htmlHi Pete, here`s the 84 catalogue .Notice that the Goldstar st 80`s were fitted with black backed Di Marzio VS 1s with plastic covered as opposed to cloth covered wires and little round rubber grommets as opposed to mounting springs.
As you can see ,DouDou`s are exactly the same as mine minus the PAF stickers. They may have had them originally but who knows!

http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv70/doudoubass/?action=view&current=PICT6835.jpg
They also have slab boards as opposed to lam, referred to as flat rather than round in the brochure, laquer as opposed to poly finish, celluloid pickguards and D as opposed to C shaped necks, just like my 3 tone sunburst St 80 and DouDou Bass`s strat. now resprayed blue.
The rosewood necked Goldstar St 80s were supposedly based on a 1960 strat as opposed to the usual rosewood necked 1964 St50s. St 100s seem to be fitted with some kind of locking nut and Floyd type whammy(E.T. tremelo) as well. Regards Gabe.

By mid year 1983 TST 80 and 100 had VS-1 pickups and the 120 model disappears.

I'm happy owner of this Goldstar, by the way. The close up shot of the Dimarzio VS-1 pickup that I posted earlier was the one from this guitar.

I took the risk of buying the guitar from the "I don't know anything" style of (private?) seller from Japan with slight consequences, though.

The frets were worn down to zero, so I had to have the guitar refretted. Also the tremolo arm thread in the tremolo block was so badly damaged that I had to swap out the whole tremolo. Wilkinson VW6 was a perfect match (and with narrower string spacing as a bonus - Tokai's have originally 11.2 mm, resulting high and low E string to be a bit too close to the edge of the fretboard. Wilkinson has 10.8 mm, which is just fine). I did swap out the Wilkinson's original saddles to the ones from Highwood. I am sure that pickguard wasn't original, either, as the pickguard holes and screw holes in the guitar were a bit misaligned in a couple of spots, giving my luthier a bit of additional work to fix. It's a bit strange that the pickguard had been swapped, given that the wiring and solder joints seemed to be original and untouched.

But I'm happy to report it all paid off at the end - it plays and sounds fantastic. I'm very fond of the C shape neck that the Goldstars have (as I did not get along with the V-neck of the ST-80 Springy at all :) ).

I guess there is a fine line in between - the neck is not that flat on the back perhaps as you would expect from the typical D-shape, but then again it is not definitely that rounded as well what you'd expect from the typical C-shape... if there are typical shapes at all :) So, it could be a "60U" as well - visually it seems perhaps even a bit chunky, but doesn't feel so when playing. Very comfortable, that's what I can tell for sure.

In direct comparison with Reborn Old LS-80 (1980), the Goldstar's neck is _very_ comfortable straight out of the box. I have to admit the neck of LS was way too chunky for me.
