OK...where to begin here Very little is known on these guitars but what is known is that they were built, possibly as a side project that never took off(??), from around 1984 to 1987 (??) by Tokai. From what I gather, they made a scale of models similar to the LS-60, 80, etc but used a different model designation. From what Mojo Hobo showed in another thread, some were made with Ash.
This particular model is 100% mahogany, 2 piece center seamed back, 1 piece neck without a heel cap, 18* headstock angle, gorgeous fretboard, 2mm veneer flame top honey burst but what looks to be a 1 piece maple cap underneath!? It could possibly be a 3/4 x 1/4 or 1/3 x 2/3 top as well I suppose but no visible seam in both cavities. Weight is right in the upper 8 lower 9 lbs range and it has a nice '59 neck on it. In the neck pup cavity, the model number is S-12, could it be an LS-120 equivalent? Who knows but it DID have fret edge binding on it (loads of traces of it) but it looks to have been recently re-fretted and the frets look like they have had little use. The previous owner must have been a heavy smoker (oh it stinks lol) who most likely just played at home as the tuners and pup rings patina have aged beautifully and look like they are off of a 50's Les Paul and there is very little dings or wear on all parts of the wood.
I will need to do an acetone test here shortly but for now, without further ado...meet the Grandy.
