I have to say the sharpest "V" neck I have come across was a 1980 Tokai TE-120..... The V was so sharp I sold it to a forum member that won't sell it back to me.. I don't blame him, but in the early days of collection these guitars We did not know how some of these models are so rare and hardly come to up for sale.

Sounds like a nice guitar. I love the '81 I got from you.

Wow that’s some collection!

Cliff has some amazing guitars. I linked his Flickr page and others in another thread featuring photo albums of amazing guitars.

I noticed that both rosewood st100 were without flame neck. Just like mine. Maybe the rosewood necks didn’t come with flame?

It would of been a bit of a waste to be honest, with a rosewood finish. That Maple isn't found in every tree!
Makes sense!

More felixcatus inspired info relevant to this thread. 8)

If there were Teles might there have been Strats too? Does anyone know?

As far as I know there are no vintage Fender Teles with a ?V? shaped neck and veneer rosewood fingerboard.

There were some produced during a strike in 1962 when the management ended up producin the necks. They are extremely rare, but they do exist.

Sorry for the late reply...
Not sure why I was quoted here - I didn't mention 'V' shaped rosewood boards - however, just for sake of conversation, a 'famous', deceased friend of mine had one of those V necked '62 r/w board Strats back in '84, as a backup to his hardtail '79 Strat.
Yeah, I know, a '62 playing backup to a 79? They were just old guitars back then.

By the way, I wouldn't get too excited about flamed maple necks. I have too cheap (Squier and Vintage) guitars that have flamed maple necks.

Do you have a link to a ‘62 Strat V neck with rosewood? Would like to see that. Also, is it a slab or the radiused veneer?

And no idea why you were quoted. The link I used is for the wrong thing. Grrrr. Sorry

Another V Neck ST100 with a rosewood board.

Note that it is yet a different shape than the ST80R with a V neck....

Yep,hard V.Its not as big and round V as the St80 or the AST'56.

1981 catalog says for the "Oldy" '64 model (rosewood board) ST100:

"Rose Fingerboard Laminate Maple Neck Old V Shape"

Spring 1982 catalog says for the "Oldy" ST model (rosewood) ST100:

"Rose Fingerboard Laminate Maple Neck Old U Shape"

Also lists "GSR" as a color option for the ST100 with a V neck until the spring of 1982.

Your guitar is a proper ST100. Sorry I added to the confusion. Another Tokai anomaly.

Thanks for sharing, as always. I look forward to hearing back from you and learning more about these guitars :) I’m expecting the fiesta red one in a month or so. Will share when it comes to me.

I just noticed the serial number on this.

SN 0000290

Seems like it’s using a different number scheme than other STs? Should be a much higher number.

My 1979 ST100 is SN 9003909.

Another mystery.

Hi Sigmania, isn’t the serial number consistent with what a 1980 manufactured guitar would have? Why does it seem to be deviating from the normal number scheme? I can’t tell.

Your serial number suggests it was the 290th Fender style guitar made. That number was surpassed in 1977.

If you see the serial number of my ‘79 ST100 it is almost to 4,000.

Wondering why it would be a different system. They didn’t reset in 1980. It was continuous until the change in the serial number scheme in the spring of 1982.

Maybe I’m missing something, but it’s definitely unusual.

Quite the mysterious guitar. Super cool.

That’s wild.

Looks like ST100s have a different numbering system than other STs.

Even my ‘79 is much lower than say ST80s.

Other STs in 1980 number around 14,000.

If you look at siamackz's ST100s, his 1978 has a higher production number (720) than both of his 1980s.

8000720 ST100OW
0000290 ST100YSR
0000639 ST100NT

So looks like maybe the ST100s reset in the new decade even though other STs did not??

Tally so far:

8000720 ST100OW (siamackz)
8000989 ST100OW (Cliff)
8002080 ST100OW (Cliff)
9003909 ST100GS (sigmania)
0008924 ST100BL (Cliff)

Then a change...

0000117 ST100NT (Cliff)
0000188 ST100BLR (settebello)
0000290 ST100YSR (siamackz)
0000630 AT100GS (Cliff)
0000639 ST100NT (siamackz)
