Welcome Dave, Lefty64, good to hear from another lefty.
Regarding your photos if you edit your post adding [/img] after each url they should show.

Looks like a 1984 lefty to me with VI pickups. Sometimes neck and body codes do not match, yours has the same cavity code as a black lefty Goldstar serial no 21221.

thanks fro the info, what is the difference between the V pickups and other types of Tokai pickups on the Goldstar models? what model ST would it be?

What lefty Tokai's have you?

What lefty Tokai's have you?
My wife would say too many :D .....Several 1984/85 rosewood board 'L' serial plate Goldstars (TST55L & TST60L's), one 84 Maple Breezysound TTE55L in unplayed condition.

Your sunburst is a TST55L, which is the lefty version of an ST50. It would have had a 55 sticker at the back of the neck originally, I have not seen a lefty '60' sunburst to date. Yours should have Deluxe stamped on the tuners. Have a look at the 84/85 catologues on the forum.

Pickups are a subjective matter, it's worth experimenting with replacement pickups from the many brands available. Mine have V,VI and VII - VII's are too shrill for me. Tokai used right hand staggered pickups on left hand Goldstars.
Other lefty forum members are bazz, Stelyn and JuniorEnthusiast (Olav) who also have some early ones. Below are some previous posts which will help

hey lifeline thanks for that - what did I do wrong with me pics?

hey thanks for the extra info, you can never have too many of these I don't think, I 'll admit I'm hooked on the guitar it plays and sounds superb

Let me know if you know anyone selling any 80's Tokai's anytime

thanks again

Eh up Dave, It was a code problem with the pics. If you open a post on the forum and then click on the IMG code box in photobucket (the one at the bottom) it should copy it through, you can check by using the preview box where the picture or text will show above.

Glad to help, yes Tokai's are great and addictive, I call it TAS -Tokai Acquisition Syndrome. I think there is an 80's Lefty Maple Goldstar at Northern Guitars in Leeds, in Old Red (Dakota Red) which is a fairly rare colour though it does have play wear on the body. It's been on ebay a couple of times at ?375. Speak to Dusty at Northern guitars.

Cheers
Pete

hi thanks once again - yeh I checked it out at Northern Guitars but it has had some extra pickup routing - wanted it stock otherwise a great buy, helpful shop for lefties as well - they don't get enough credit some of the independant stores - perhaps we should start a campaign for em (especially the lefty friendly ones)

Yes Dave the Independent shops have more character. Shame about the route, I will look out for you. There is a black maple one at Fort Madisson guitars in the US, though shipping import tax will make it very expensive.

Cheers

hi yeh just had a look they have a sunburst with rw neck but couldn't see the black with maple - are there 2 fort madison shops?
