Playing the Tokai ES120 the other day and switched to the bridge pickup. Tried to roll off some treble and no real change from the tone knob. Touched the pointer (that tells you if you are on 1 or 10) under the hat knob and with my hand off the strings it made a buzzing sound until I touched the pointer. Then I saw that the 10 wasn?t lined up with the pointer so I twisted the knob to make it match. All of a sudden the tone control worked and the buzzing reduced some. I?m thinking I?ve got a short some where or something isn?t grounded right but would they have grounded the tone control to the pointer?

Any other thoughts on what could cause this?

Sounds like your ground came loose. If your tone control isn't grounded it won't do anything.

Is the tone control grounded to the little pointer?

The pointer is attached to the pot casing (when the nut that holds the pot in place is tight), so it will be grounded...if the tone control pot is grounded.
