Anyone know what the word "Crochan" means? Seems to be a different word than Kluson and applies to the original shaped Fender heads (small head) on Strats and Teles.

I come across it a good bit in translating the 1982 catalog

That's exactly what it seems to be? Not a linguist, particularly no clue about Japanese but it seems that クローシャンヘッド (kurōshanheddo in romaji) is an idiomatic (?) term for Fender headstocks, which might be why automatic translation has so much problems with that. At any rate, if you google that word, plenty of Fender headstocks and pages apparently explaining the term pop up.

Quite related, the translators have big problems with the way the Japanese "import" words like "Stratocaster" or "old Kluson type" (pegs): オールドクルーソンタイプ (ōrudokurūsontaipu) is almost sounding like the English counterpart, except that sounds really cute in Japanese. :) I can see how the software has a problem with translating that back like "Crewson" or similar, simply because it isn't exactly Japanese.
