Hi Peter,

Thank you for the correction 8)

The 3 bolt SS60 seem to only be a 1981 issue, according to volume 3 (1980) catalogue it's not there....but is in the 1981 volume 4 catalogue....
then in 1982 is the 1966 SS60 4 bolt

Mick

That just goes to show how little the catalogues really tell us, except for rough guidance. Mine is dated 1980.

I'm still not sure whether the brass saddles take something away from the sound though.

That's is very true Mike, because the catalogues are not released exactly to show what models are only produced for any particular year, just gives a ball park guide of models, other models, newer ones could be made after the catalogue is released etc...

Hey Mick,
I take it from your comments you have a Vol 4 Flat top series catalog from 1981 ?
I have the Vol 3, 5, 6, 8, 12 & 15. I also have Vol 1 Traditional(1984), 2 x 1985 (SRV, INXS) , 1981 Vol 1 Spare parts, 1986 MAT guitars and Acoustics Vol1 and Vol4. If we could get together, I'm sure we could fill in some of the blanks.
What say you?
regards
Peter Mac

Hey Mick,
thats not quite accurate -
SS-48/50 : F-key tuners, flat pole p'ups (S)*
SS-48/50 has Schaller tuners.
I've never seen one with F-type tuners and would appreciate photographic evidence if I'm wrong.

Now that's nice. To avoid confusion, could you start a new thread in the Vintage section (I think it's a 1983)? This thread is about Silver Stars, & that ain't a Silver Star. But anything with a matching headstock is interesting, so please start a new thread and let us see more pics, if you have them.

Turntheteleup I have sent you a pm about featuring your guitar in the tokai photo book of strats

Hi guys,
great thread - we've all learned 2 important features . .

1) 1981 SS-60 had a bullet truss rod, 3 bolt neck and was only made for that year with these features - SS-60 from 82 - 84 were 1966 replicas.
This means I now have to update my info.

2) SS-48/50 are distinguished from their SS38/40 cousins by having different pickups and schaller machine heads - 10,000yen well spent.

No we haven't! I posted pics of my 1980 SS60 on an earlier page. Never mind what the catalogue says, I have a guitar that proves they were made in 1980.

OK Peter, I think I see what you mean, but surely we should avoid making statements such as a model was only made in a certain year when we have proof that they were made earlier or later as well? As you have said yourself, there are few definites with Tokais.
