Looks like Tokai got a big pot (-entiometer) delivery in Nov. '83.

Can you fill me in about what's known (or common belief) about the rectangular "MADE IN JAPAN" stickers? They look like they could have emerged somewhere in the later part of 1983 to me, but there are puzzling outliers.

That’s a good question. I haven’t focused in on those. My belief is they emerged in 1983 but I haven’t paid much attention. Not sure if any examples exist in 1982?

Also interesting why they would suddenly appear and why there would be a need to signal that this is a Japanese import?

The block logo outlier linked above looks more like 1982 than '83 but that's really totally off, apparently they only start showing up (or remaining on the instruments since I guess they were often peeled off) around what looks like '84 or late '83 so far. Good question why they suddenly got an urge to mark them as MIJ this way.
