~ Production dates for KOREAN ALS Love Rocks ~

FYI: most, if not all of the "unauthorized production" MIK Loverocks have a one screw TRC

Help me with my search for a cheap (MIJ) strat.

Some early ones were MIJ. Later ones were MIK. If MIJ, it should say somewhere on it. MIK Aria pro II's were usually made by Samick and were pretty good guitars. Should have a serial # that starts with S. I think they are still making guitars in either Indonesia or China.

Help me with my search for a cheap (MIJ) strat.

I know you are looking for MIJ, but have a look at the Squier pro tone strats. They are MIK but are becoming collectible. These have been discontinued, and some have clear finishes with really nice grain. Just something to consider and in your price range...

1997 TOKAI LS420 LP STD 59RI FLAME TOP

Some models did have Tom Holmes pickups, but the pickup routes don't look to be Tokai?

I have no idea what model Tokai I own

The bridge posts have bushings. Not MIJ. Show a picture of the headstock back with the serial number.

Tokai LC98S Refin as in what's under the paint.

That samick looks really nice. I have a Samick built Aria Pro II PE special from the same era thats a really beautiful and well built instrument. All that experience making beautiful pianos payed off.

    Loverock LS5

I've see the USA ones go for $600-$700. I'm thinking the MIJ ones could be half that?? This guitar has the MIJ ones. Not sure if you can buy them unless they are OEM on a new guitar.

    Loverock LS5

The seller bought it in Japan at a shop. What is interesting is that he's done alot of upgrades some of which appear to be unecessary. A stainless steel refret foremost comes to mind. Vintage rewire with CTS and switchcraft, Real bumblebee caps, aluminum tail, locking bridge, etc. comes with...

    Loverock LS5

For sale locally is a 2009 MIJ Loverock MODEL LS5. The seller says its based on the LS100Q with factory installed Tom Holmes pickups. The headstock is badged "pacific exclusive" and is supposed to be one of only 12 made. Is anyone familiar with this model?

Love Rock with no model sticker

Using the correct drill bit size slowly in reverse will widen the holes with out finish damage.

    Gibbo (tokai) guitars.......what's going on?

Great! Now we have a U.K. Fakai.

What colour was my '84 Super Edition Strat when it was born?

CAR is not an easy finish to do. As a result, there is even a "CAR Survivor Club" on one of the guitar refinishing forums.

Need Help Just got my 1st Tokai LP

Search "Fakai" on this site or the web in general and you find a long convoluted tale about these guitars. It looks like one of the Canadian Fakais to me, which it was purported to be made in the same factory as the legit Korean Tokai guitars. Who knows the true story? Nice playing guitars...

    Legit?

Stranger things have happened. I think his story has a little bit of hair on it, however. Its a shame the headstock got changed; it certainly lowers its value in my eyes.

Tokai Lawsuit / impound - the facts

I don't think Fender was upset for long. They had hooked up with Fugigen before 1982 and produced some of the best strats ever. (JV series). While the California plant was upgrading, I believe they even provided the U.S production for a short period. (EX designated models)

Here is where the lines get blurry

Korean quality has been improving by leaps and bounds in the recent past. (Think Hyundai) However, the labor cost in China would be cheaper than Korea I would think?

Help me ID this Tokai!!! Thanks!

Those guitars are excellent players but typically sell for less than 300 USD unless they have been outfitted with upgraded pickups. As others have said, they are not official Tokai's.

cts pots and Korean Tokai Love Rock

I installed vintage wiring, switchcraft, and CTS pots in my MIK Loverock. There is a trick to enlargening the holes to fit CTS. Either use sand paper as mentioned, which takes awhile, or operate the proper size drill bit with moderate pressure IN REVERSE until you get through. This prevents the...
