    Brass shielding?

The brass shielding plate was phased out around '86.

    The Earliest Springys 1977-

Looking through Iain's book, from what I can see from the pictures, the routing/serial theory seems to stand up.

    The Earliest Springys 1977-

I have 8003549 ST-85 What's interesting for me is that the pickup routings were deeper in the first '77 and '78's. At some point in '78 the routings changed (as with mine) to the type that remained until about '85 - they were shallower but had counterbores for the pickup screws. I'm wondering...

    Help Authenticating Springy Sound

That's not believable. Until about '80, the Springy's had an allen adjustment for the truss rod, not cross head. Maybe if it was a very early ('77), it could have different routings, but it would have had a smaller neck plate and serial in the neck pocket, which is not the case here. By the...

    Help Authenticating Springy Sound

The neck looks correct for a 1980-1982 Springy. Deluxe tuners and stamps look ok. The body routings don't match that of a Springy. I can't see any stamps. I don't recognise the electrics, but they are not Springy.

    1982 Springy Sound ST-60(?) CAR

That's true. Although I haven't seen a 60 with Us myself. Nitro test?

    U pickups. The 60 would have E.

ST55 Metalic Red with matching headstock

All of my maple Springy and Goldstars have 8 hole single ply pickguards. There are lots of anomalies out there. Since I've seen a number of examples of maple neck variants with L series neck plates and 3 ply pickguards, my theory was that some clever dick at a dealer was maybe swapping parts...

    1981 Silver Star SS40

No these look different. The solder spots are spaced differently and the wires are routed through a hole to the front on mine.

    1981 Silver Star SS40

The tuners have definitely not been replaced. I'm also thrown by the pickups which are black bottomed. It also doesn't have the brass control plate that you would see on the SS from that year.

    1981 Silver Star SS40

Just taking apart and cleaning one of my Silverstars from '81, and it appears I have one of these. Squared off routings and no body codes. Odd micro tilt. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zt7DKfgjww1GptBp7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Bzi31fDyFWamJvu7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/2Di96hB383N6kPa38...

    Unusual Goldstar routing and pups

Hi guys, This is probably one for the uber-experts like Villager, Peter, et al. This appears to be factory routed as HSS - the factory stamp is intact and no evidence of post factory routing. All lacquer is in place. Pups seem different or replacement - surely not dimarzios...

    ST40

They don't always match - but they mostly do. When they match, it's a quite likely confirmation that they belong together. If they don't match, it could be that it was made like that, or that it's an assembly of sorts afterwards. I don't think anyone knows 100% what the number codes mean, but...

    Authenticity

Serials denoting age are on the neck plates.

    Authenticity

First 1000? They started making these in '77. The serial is for an '82, so how can it be of the first 1000 built?
