Starting a gallery to collect these and document them.

Also known as "Vintage MKII" pickups. VII

When they came out in the 1984 catalog they were spec’d for TST50. The TST60 had the V pickups.

Earliest examples of them that I have seen are in a Goldstar from November 1983.

Resistance is roughly 5.8kΩ

Sometimes they are incorrectly stamped as IIV.

The V and II are not in a line, so are applied separately.

March 1987 pot dates. 73

Goldstar 84 Identity Help?

Note that these often look like VI as well due to a sloppy stamp as Voidoid56 mentioned.

These readings are what Peter Mac was quoting for V pickups.

Wondering if these measurements are not accurate?

Tokai strat pickups

Feb. 16, 2015

Peter Mac:

From 1978 - 1984 the grey bobbins were
ST Vintage (E) = 5.7 ohm avg
ST Vintage MkII (U) = 6.2 ohm avg
1983 - 1987
ST Vintage (V) = 5.7 ohm avg
ST Vintage MkII (VII) = 6.2 ohm avg - or even "IIV"
All have wax covered cloth wire of Black (ground) and white (live) and staggered pole pieces. These are for the ST models.
Early ST-42 and ST-45 models has a ceramic magnet pickup but this was stopped by 1980

For the SS models the bobbins were black with Black and Blue wires, levelled pole pieces and were 'H' Hot or 'S' Super. In 1983 these bobbins became grey and the letters were stamped onto the base, similar to the ST series.

In all, the 'E' series are the most sought after. As far as the 'T' model goes, I have not seen them, so they could be from 1990 and later models.

1983 TST50 FO

Looks like by November the new pickups were going into Goldstars. That is if this is original wiring (with the exception of the bridge pickup of course).

Pot dates September 1983

November production date.

MKII (VII) pickups.

Can't see the serial number.

TOKAI Late 80's Strat Model Center Pickup Gray Bobbin

This is the original pickup (gray bobbin) of the Stratocaster center pickup
TOKAI AST-'62 (late 80's).

The resistance value has been confirmed to be 5.85kΩ with a tester, and the conductor is 15cm long and original.
