and very very expensive

Yeah, a weird one - was originally cherry SB and now re-finished, pickups changed etc, so it's not being bought for such a high price because it is mint and original.

And it has relic work done on it, in particular the cutting of the lacquer on the headstock is ***** and the belt buckle scratching is an abomination and most likely a mistake that got out of hand. I don't mind relics generally because they often feel quite good to play, but that scoring of the lacquer with a knife just shouldn't be done.

I may be missing something here, in that maybe the re-finishing and relic work was done by some well known person...
It looks quite nice though, from a distance.

At the rate these prices are going the only LS I will be getting is a damaged one! Oh crap, that IS a damaged one IMO!

OMG - thats been abused , rather than "used"

not the most sympathetic relicing job I've seen - whats the point of that ?

Rgds

ah.. next time I will read the ad and look at the other pics :-?

especially the back is horrendous

It also looks like it has an inked on serial number (?), which raises various red flags at that price (IMO).

To be fair, most of my guitars have chisel rash on the back. I must remember to remove my toolbelt before a gig.

Well this is your lucky day - go on, have a bid!

There's nothing wrong with a bit of damage that's actually been done by various belt buckles, but that's not the case with this one.

Yeah I saw this one...it is nice top wise but 98K and still not hit the reserve on a LS60?! NO THANKS! Plus it no longer is original so value is shot. Well if it is nitro then I cannot see them using a knife. There are much easier ways to do so...especially in Japan's heat!

Why? It's a 1978 serial number, they were inked on at that time, right?
It's the same font as my 1978 Burny (which I think was made by Tokai) with the thick '1'..

here's the LS60

Did you pay 100k for it?

This is all about price - if I purchased a LS-60 Reborn for 100k and it ended up having a multi piece neck or tenon, I'd be f*cking pissed off.

Given all this talk of 100k LS-60s, there is another one on Yahoo that started off at 128k, but was lowered to 98k when the one we are talking about reached 98k. These make the one from Guitarcraft look like a bargain!

But remember, at 100k you are half way to this:

Should be pressed in, rather thank inked, in 1978. Tokai LS series guitars with ink stamped serials were a 1981 phenomena, I believe :)

Strange top on that one! The center seam under the veneer looks to be split with 4mm or so of an additional 3rd piece of wood? Definitely 2 seams or lines off center left and right of the top sheet seam

The ones from 1978 I have seen are very lightly impressed but are all inked on.
The LS50s & 60s inkies from 1980 & 1981 (and the one LS200 from 1983 I know of) are inked on without being impressed and with a slightly different font like you pointed out in a another thread. Like this:

Just look at the 1, 5 and 6
