The volute is something Gibson introduced in the 70s (I think) to try to reduce the risk of neck breakages at the weakest point.

I didn't say it couldn't happen :eek: , that's so disturbing :cry: Even more disturbing would be a whole thread about the subject.
 
Considering one could get a "Fakai" for under $300 US and they are decent guitars, and not plywood... I wouldn't expect much bro. If you like the way it plays and sounds I would suggest keeping it for a backup.
