The sellers are asking for a smidge under $2k for this

Strange considering LS80s are going for a grand or less

I really doubt that pre 1982 LS-80s "are going for a grand or less"

asking price for this one was around $2200/$2300, within the last three months  ............

............ and the cheapest price on one of these LS-80s is $1641 USD

You may be able to get a deal on one IF you have connections in Japan but .............................. :) ............... 8) ........ :p ..........

+1 - though the price on that LS50 would even make Koiz blush!

That LS-50 price is bollocks, only a total ignoramus would pay that, except in ten years time when the price would probably be right!

A mint LS-50 sold on ebay Australia a couple of months ago for AUD $1050, or about USD $900, it was listed a couple of times, with a higher starting price, but wasn't sold. I should have bought it and tried to re-sell for $1500.

LS-80s on the other hand can easily get to that price.

I think for that price you are paying at least $1000 for that very long writeup.

These guitars are called the lawsuit guitars for a reason; they copied the originals to perfection. Why else does a Tokai Les Paul Reborn command prices of over $10,000.00, if you can find a high-end, mint one? The Reborns & Reborn Olds were only made for 3 years, and they are becoming scarcer by the day. In truth I hate to sell any of them, but that's what we do, so here's your chance to get a piece of history before they are all gone.

Yes, the poly finish copies the original to perfection :)

The finish is stated to be nitro on the listing?

Yes, the multi piece body copies the original as well, I think it's a general spiel about Reborns followed by an opportunity to buy the base model in the series. The whole thing is on that line between sales puff and misleading.

Pfffffffffft, I did think of Koiz when I heard the price.

In actual fact I'm a tad surprised that this price is coming from this seller. I've always thought that they were reasonably priced in the US market. I'm wondering whether they've been lead up the garden path on this guitar

8-900 is the usual dollar price for the LS-50s as pointed out above

Another point on the copying to perfection - there were no black LP Standards in the original model run! Of course there may have been one or two custom ordered in black, any others are refinished.
