I bought this like a year ago used. Guy at the store said it was from like the 80's or something. It looks old. But I'm not sure if it's a real Tokai because I haven't been able to find anything that looks like it online or in any of the Tokai catalogs. I don't really care, it's still a decent guitar, but I just wanted to know if what I have is genuine or not.

Pics are kind of big, so I won't embed them.

EDIT: I should mention I replaced the electronics and the knobs. The knobs were clear-ish with numbers on them. The electronics were fine, but I wanted something with a split coil, so I put in some new ones. Mostly just to experience modding a guitar, not really to alter the sound.

Definitely a real Tokai from the early 80's. The headstock shape was used on several models. It's probably an EXD series model:

These are from 1984 but yours might be a year or two older.

Awesome, thanks a lot! Must be an obscure model, though, since so many people viewed and nobody could identify it.

Thanks again!

Mind disclosing how much you got it for buddy?

I have an EXD Explorer also. It is almost impossible to find info about this model. Here's some pics of mine.
I just stumbled on this a few days ago in a pawn shop. I've always wanted a green sunburst guitar and when I saw this one it was like seeing a lonely mutt at the humane shelter. I just had to take it home. She's been badly abused. The back has buckle rash and there are dings and bruises all over. There is a crack around the input jack but it's not all the way through to the control cavity. There was actually chewing gum stuck to the back of it. The tag said the electronics were bad. I plugged it into a little practice amp there in the pawn shop to try it out. With a wiggle of the input jack she came to life. Both pickups, the switch, volume and tone all worked fine. So I offered $30 USD for this "non-working" guitar and out the door I went. It will need a deep cleaning and setup but I think it will make a nice addition to my motley collection.
