Disappointing to see that Jimmie Vaughan only got a couple of mentions, as did Ronnie Earl. I think only one person mentioned Anson Funderburgh, & he was from Dallas, Anson's home town. I wonder if we'll ever see Anson back in London now that singer Sam Myers has died?

In a similar vein, for those who like their blues a little heavier, have a listen to Smokin' Joe Kubek, another Texan, I believe. How is it that Texas can produce so much that's so good (it's guitarists I'm thinking of), and also....... George Dubya Bush? Jesus......

But the one person who nobody has mentioned is Alex Schultz. He played with Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers for a few years. He replaced Junior Watson, and was replaced by Rick Holmstrom. I saw him 3 times in London, and he was truly amazing. Basically a jazz player, but he can nail that raw Jimmie Vaughan sound too, which most jazz players can't (or won't). I think he may have gone back to playing bass now, which seems a waste.

If you see any of the CDs he recorded with The Mighty Flyers, get them. Alex Schultz is possibly the most under-rated blues/jazz player on the planet.

Jack White is one of my favourite guitarists.
I love that he creates such great tunes but still keeps it pretty simple.
Sure, he's a bit gimmicky at times which has led to commercial popularity - but I don't mind that.
It's a necessary evil I think he pulls off with integrity.
He inspires me to pick up a guitar and make music more than any virtuoso I see.
So I also beleive soul is the key the good musicianship.
