Saw this (below) in Songbird today.

It's a copy of one of the coooolllest LPs ever made: the Les Paul Pro Deluxe. It took me three years of hunting to find my Gibson, and here is Dillion (Tokai) making copies, albeit Korean. If I weren't so tapped out right now I might take a flyer on one, which comes out to only $234 US. That's ridiculous!!

I guess they get around to copying everything at some point. The only difference I can see is that my LPPD has an ebony board, and may have a more narrow neck. Mine is 1 5/8 inches. Also My LP Pro Deluxe is a factory 2nd, which is probably why I got it when I did at under $1,000, as they are now becoming scarce.

So I wonder how this sounds. Has anyone played one? The Harmony-central reviews for Dillion LP goldtops rate pretty high. If it sounds half as good as my LP Pro Deluxe, it has to be the steal of the year!

I have one, and it's really neat. Got it from Mike's in Canada, and he had a couple on eBay for around $400.00 US. Looks just like my Everest, and just like the Korean Tokais. The P-90s are great sounding, the neck is a thin 1960s style, and it plays great. Hard to beat for the money involved. I did email John Dillion about the model, which was given to me as a 678. He claims that it's not of his production, so you're prolly on your own for warranty. Either way, it's a really nice axe...light for an LP copy, but looks like a solid value so far...
Here's the same basic deal in Goldtop reviewed at HC:http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Dillion/DLP600GT-01.html

Thanks, Ramsale, for the info!

If I dared bring in one more guitar in the house (and of course past my wife) I would snap it up as it seems like such a deal.

I kinda like p90s as they are an ideal mix between the Strat and Les Paul sounds. I suspect that the inherent 60-cycle hum scares off many from trying them. I play at practice volume levels, which means pretty low when the fam is at home. But even then the hum is not bad at all, and if you're going to crank it, who on earth is going to be able to detect a hum? You sould lose your hearing trying to pick it out! p90s are a bit tricky for recording, I've read, but I'll bet there are ways to get around it.

The tone illustrates what Howlin' Wolf sang about in "300 Pounds of Heavenly Joy!":p

Hey Ramsale

Just thought to add these Harmony reviews of the little-known but highly prized Les Paul Pro Deluxe. I don't believe they are hyping it at all.

thanks
