Hi!

I joined a few years ago but have only JUST actually bought my first tokai!

Had it a few days and I absolutely love it, il try and add photos. I think it’s quite an unusual one.

It’s pretty much all original, as far as I can see however just noticed that the tone knobs appear to be different to the volume and wondered about finding OEM spares. Someone on reverb wants £160 just for the knobs!

Anyone know a good affordable resource for replacement 80s tokai parts? Or new parts that are the same as the originals…

Cheers!

Looks great.

Are you sure the knob is different? Wondering if one aged more than the other two? These tend to yellow over time.

Is the ink the same color?

I’m literally just going on the difference in colour but now that I’m looking I thought they looked a different size too maybe… or maybe it’s just my mind telling me that because they’re a different colour haha.

It doesn’t actually bother me that much, I just half expected to find a few for sale for waaaay less than £160. For that kind of scratch I think il deal.

I’ve seen that Faber seem to have a stash of old tokai parts, might message them but I’m sure if they had them to sell they would be listed on their site.

They look the same to me, but it's hard to tell with pictures.

The guitar has apparently yellowed some, so looks like someone was a smoker or played in bars possbily?

And yeah, the correct knobs for these can be tough to track down. Note the lack of dots.

The pots are metric if you try to replace them. And I would definitely keep those in the case if you do. I suspect they are original.

Maybe it’s my eyes playing tricks on me, it has all yellowed some with age. Maybe the volume pot more so due to a tobacco stained finger haha.

Il leave it be, thanks for the replies

All of the type matches. I think these are all Tokai. If you look at the replacements they often have dot markers or the letters and numbers look different.

If it bothers you, you can try cleaning it in place or removing the volume knob if you can do it without cracking it.

If the yellowing is just on the surface, Goo Gone might work and not damage the ink I think.

Just be really gentle and don't scrub it with anything abrasive or it may look worse.

Real vintage Tokai replacements can be hard to find. And expensive as you discovered.

Again congratulations.

And super cool with the handwritten neck code for the special order Sonic Blue Headstock (SOH).
