Thanks for the reply re my Goldstars, Peter. One question regarding the 9=3 code. If we assume production stamp 9 was September, was this started in Sept 83 but finally shipped early84, taking into account spraying/drying and shipping? I'm basing this on April 84 Goldstars purchased new Aug 84...

Rare MB Headstock Strat-Can I learn more about this please?

I also have one from the same batch as yours Serial L14371, it has the same body codes 9=3 MB V. The neck sticker is worn, though I also have an earlier Block Logo Blue headstock Goldstar from 1983, which has a 60 sticker. Do you have a picture of the neck code on yours ?

    CODES AGAIN -Fender Replicas

Hi Peter and all Yes, the change form the equals code to dash (minus) code and others is another mystery chapter in the Tokai experience. In a previous post I?ve shown that the first Left hand production was exported April 1984. L22746, L22816 LH Goldstar ST55L?s both have neck and body...

    CODES AGAIN -Fender Replicas

As there has been much talk on neck/body codes again in recent threads, I thought it may be better to debate again /update our findings in a fresh post. For me Peter Mac's dating theory is the most logical: " My number theory is based on MM = DD (month = day) due to the fact that i have never...

finally a Tokai Springy Sound, but is it legit/original?

Cali, re your ST 50 & ST70 I think it is probably coincidence those guitars were produced May 5 and July 10. :D For me Peter Mac's dating theory is the most logical. http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=15999&highlight=codes and...

    Tokai TST80 special edition

I don't believe I've seen this on the forum, so here's a cutting I kept from either Sounds or Melody Maker in 1985 by Carol Segal, which I hope will be of interest. Many thanks also for posting the cavity code picture, this is of particular of interest to me as I have a TST60 Goldstar...

    Tokai TST80 special edition

Well done Jackdaw, a very nice Super Edition you purchased, rare with 3 single coil V pickups, normally found on Goldstars. Could you repost the cavity picture showing the codes please. Regarding your question about codes: BB is the colour code, 3-7 refers to the production date March 7, the...

    Lefty Goldstar Sound Dating

Yes Dave the Independent shops have more character. Shame about the route, I will look out for you. There is a black maple one at Fort Madisson guitars in the US, though shipping import tax will make it very expensive. Cheers

    Lefty Goldstar Sound Dating

Eh up Dave, It was a code problem with the pics. If you open a post on the forum and then click on the IMG code box in photobucket (the one at the bottom) it should copy it through, you can check by using the preview box where the picture or text will show above. Glad to help, yes Tokai's are...

    Lefty Goldstar Sound Dating

My wife would say too many :D .....Several 1984/85 rosewood board 'L' serial plate Goldstars (TST55L & TST60L's), one 84 Maple Breezysound TTE55L in unplayed condition. Your sunburst is a TST55L, which is the lefty version of an ST50. It would have had a 55 sticker at the back of the neck...
