Wanted: Tokai or Agile Rickenbacker Copies

I've got one that I never play and would like to sell. I got the ebay auction shutdown without even mentioning the rickenbacker name. Anyway, the one I've got is made in Korea, I don't know the brand. It's the black john lennon type one, almost the same as the one from Mike's music except mine...

Buying LoveRock from Japan And Model Nos...

The guitar might get finish cracks from extreme temperatures (and temp changes) during the flight. This might occur where the binding meet or where any two wood pieces meet. It won't be like nitro cracking though. Most shipping companies state in their liability thing that they don't cover...

    What's Gibson doing?

Since the LP standard changed and are now offered with a choice of 50's fat or 60's slim neck, the Classic has been moved downwards in the ladder. The studios and classics both come with multipiece mahogany backs now and are probably still getting more cost cutting build changes done to them...

    Lack of Tokais on E-Bay

Maybe because of the lawsuit that's going on. If people stock up on Tokais in a home business or something and can't sell it on Ebay anymore then they're stuck with a bunch of unmovable product. That, or they decide to keep it for themselves to turn into vintage lawsuit copies in a few years.

Which pickup rings for my Love Rock?

I think there are 2 maple pieces under the veneer on my LS80F. The join is not down the middle like on a bookmatched top, but on the bass side of the humbucker cavity. For the treble side I couldn't see a joint from two pieces of wood. Past the area visible through the PU cavity, I was looking...

    They're acrylic I think

    Jacaranda

Will any owners of Love rocks with the jacaranda fretboard please compare the wood with indian rosewood and/or Gibson's Brazilian rosewood? I am wondering how to tell the difference between the woods visually, like grain and colour, and how different the fretboards 'feel'. Obviously the entire...

The ongoing tenon debate & mystery

It's really hard to see in the photo, a hand drawn picture might be better. From what you're saying, I get the impression that the one piece neck ends at the fingerboard, and the deep tenon 'lip' is made of another piece of darker wood? So the deep tenon is actually fake? I'm not sure I...

The ongoing tenon debate & mystery

The slightly to the left positioning is true for all Japanese Love rocks. At least it is the same on mine, and the same on yours. 8) I wonder why they do that instead of placing it in the middle like other companies.

    Weight relief holes

Seems like people were posting their Love rocks at 7 - 9.5 pounds in the other thread. This looks a bit weird to me since light mahogany is hard to come by these days. Does Tokai drill holes into the body to lessen the weight? I guess you can't tell unless you x-ray your guitar 8)

Why don't Tokai Wax Pot their Pickups????

I don't think mine are on an LS80F. I'm only saying this because I didn't see wax come out when I adjusted the polepieces, and there is no evidence of wax underneath the pickup.

    Yuck

    Look at this butchered Tokai

Why don't Tokai Wax Pot their Pickups????

I think you can wax your pickups with paraffin wax. It's the same kind of stuff ladies use to wax their hands. Buy one of those wax melting machines for your wife so she will be happy when you have a hidden agenda to wax your pickups. You dip the pickup in and tap it so air bubbles come...

    Gibson goes after Tokai

Gibson introduces models (mostly ugly ones) that last a year or two and then get cut. There really is no consistency to even the Les Paul Standard. The LP studios confuse me, what with the smaller inlays, and special runs of figured tops etc. Too many little adjustments and unsold guitars...

Nickel or chrome hardware on new guitars?

The newer pickup covers are probably nickel with a chrome covering, just like Novosel wrote. When I placed it side by side with a nickel PU and chrome PU, the Tokai/Gotoh one looks very "inbetween". I think it's weird that they would make chrome plating. I remember reading about some...

Nickel or chrome hardware on new guitars?

15 years?! I am tired of the shininess already :D How much did it cost to either replate them in nickel or strip the chrome? Maybe I could dull up the surface, but I run the risk of having scratched and ugly pickups. I think steel wool is a no no on pickups.

    Gibson goes after Tokai

I just saw this too, but you beat me to posting it. I guess that blows my chances of getting an LS 320 in the years to come. I don't want no overpriced Gibbo. Gibson continues to increase the prices of their guitars, while lowering the quality of both the materials and...

Nickel or chrome hardware on new guitars?

Is it chrome or nickel on the pickup covers and other pieces of hardware? I used to think my 2003 LS 80F had chrome hardware, but it is looking more and more like nickel... my eyes are playing tricks on me. Who knows the real answer?

considering a new ls-120...what do i need to know

I am sure it is a thin maple flame top on top of more pieces of maple, then mahogany. The pictures I have seen of LS120 doesn't have a nice regular flame top like on the higher end models. It is sort of patchy looking. btw this model comes with the brown lifton-esque case. Af for the long neck...
