Looking for a nice old Tokai LP. 1978 - 81. Prefer the more faded burst look but some of the cherrybursts are ok. What do you have?

It's just a bit of solder. I don't like this mod because the tonal changes when you lower the guitar volume knob can be very useful, especially when recording. That is part of what makes a Les Paul so versatile.

Looks like a legit 1980 TE-50 to me. Two piece body & burst finish. One of the lower end models but still nice. 7 digit serial, neck screws look correct. Would be nice to have interior photos.

Gibson always charged more for natural finish - it required higher grade woods free from flaws. Sunburst was standard to hide imperfections. Look at the model numbers... J-45 (sunburst) J-50 (natural, higher price) LG-2 (sunburst) LG-3 (natural, higher price)

I think that was a great buy, the case alone is worth a good few hundred. Plus you get an ST100 with it! It looks like a two piece body, which I would expect. I think the figure in the wood is a little more subtle than I would expect, and I'm surprised to see those knots or mineral streaks on...

I'd say that's a very good deal.

There are some of both in 1978. First the narrow neck plate, then the standard full size after that.

The longer name plaque looks like a newer reissue case.

So they went back to the bell shape in the mid 80's? That's what I get for ignoring Tokais made after 1983 :) Sorry, hope no harm was done to the sale... carry on!

I have an original Tokai truss rod cover if you want to put it back to stock. That's a real nice & rare guitar, like an ES-295 meets a Les Paul.

I have a 1980 Les Paul Reborn with "80" stamped on the last fret.

They are making more Gibsons every day. There are only so many old LS-80, LS-100, and LS-120 guitars.

I think 1980 was the last year for fretboard stamping.

I doubt the posts are bent. What happens is that the wood in the body is not enough to support them. You have a couple options. 1. Get another set of thumbwheels and put them down against the body to stabilize the post right where it comes out of the body. Then add your original thumbwheels...
