The springy wont be nitro finish, if it was it's have E pick ups not U, most of the block logos were 50's, but still a great guitar. The neck should be a clear and decisive V shape for an 80, it looks like a normal C shape.
A nitro test using acetone wont be conclusive as even the st-80's have...

Hi Walker. I'm not a bass player myself but I have a mate with 6 Tokai basses.
Post a picture and dating will be easy, that serial alone isn't enough.
What I can say is just build a spare scatch plate and load it with quality. I love Tokai, but pups are easily upgraded, but keep the Tokai...
There is a Fender Telecaster on ebay UK at the moment, I had spotted his "69" strat he has for sale and checking out his other items I was amazed to see a 67/68 Tele and a close up of the neck date which is 1=11, isn't that just a Tokai unique code system or have I been wrong all these years...
Tokai's use of Nitro on the ST-80's is well known, but as of yet I have yet to see an ST nitro finish melt away when acetone is applied. By melt away I mean it can leave you in no doubt that the finish is like the stuff fender used.
On an 1981 "80" bass it melts away like goop, 1981 LS-100 the...
The Old Red LS100 from 1981/2 has the best nitro finish I have seen on a tokai.
After seeing very little effect after applying acetone on many springy's and Reborns I was amazed at the ease with which the nitro comes off.
The Nitro makes the guitar an absolute piece of beauty, the red has aged...
Hi, I used to access a japanese website that had many japanese guitar catalogues online for free but have lost the link. Anyone got the web address for the site I'd be most grateful.
Woz.
There is continuity from all metal parts to the ground of the output jack. Still got to check rear of pots thopugh for continuity.
Seems weird that all picks should go at same time doesn't it.
I'll wax pot them if the rear pots are grounded. and hopefully that will sort it.
thanks.
Hello and help.
My fave st-60 has suddenly become unplayable and i'm gutted.
If I tap the knobs, , trem springs, pick guard, I hear the sound through my amp.
Any ideas on what is causing this and what may have caused the cause.
thanks.
Woz
Hi Jaco.......

Have you got any new tokai's in your collection?
Best Wishes.

It occured to me watching mtv that nearly all pauls you see are black. It was a great purchase despite having to buy vintage parts to get it back to stock.
It...
Cali I'm a Tokai only sort of guy but thanks. I'm just after a deep bodied semi, es-175 then it will have to be. I've seen the china models at richtone but seems very pricey.
So a Tokai es-175 copy please.
