    Transitional Springy?

OK, I got curious and pulled the pickguard off last night. Sure enough ST-50: I also took a pic. to show what I meant about the paint sinking into the grain. If only all makers could do poly like this... _Tom

    Transitional Springy?

@felixcatus - sorry I didn't think to take a pic of the neck pocket - next string change. @JohnA - that Bacchus is indeed loverly... So, all points to '78 ST-50 except one piece body. Perhaps they just pulled whatever was handy out of the bin? My co-worker brought in his fiesta red early 80s...

    Transitional Springy?

I thought it was nitro since it had really sunk into the grain (especially on the "tummy cut"), but someone else who handled it thought poly. Does poly sink into the grain like nitro? It's definitely a one piece body though - that change in grain near the jack socket is just that, not a seam...

    Transitional Springy?

Hi, I have a Springy Sound on loan which seems to have a mixture of pre-1980 features and post-1980. It has a small neckplate, and no serial number. The model number is not indicated on the last fret. The pickups are "U" type. The body is one piece, thin poly sunken into the grain. It's an...

WTT: Epiphone Japan Les Paul Custom for Tokai Strat

So I've got this Les Paul Custom made in the Epiphone Japan factory which isn't getting much play time. I'd like to trade for a Tokai Springy Sound or Goldstar Sound preferrably with U pickups or a JV Strat. This guitar has changed somewhat since the pics. It's had a setup and light fret...

    changing pickups on es130?

I don't mean to state the obvious, but have you tried adjusting the pickups for a better clean sound? I just gigged my ES130 last night with the stock pickups and was really happy with my sound. When I first got it, the pickups were very close to the strings, so I backed them down a bit. I also...

    ES-130 arrived

Yeah, I'll try to get some pictures up. Funny thing is I've got half a dozen pictures of your guitar! I had asked Back Alley music for some pics when I was shopping around. Nice guitar by the way. -telehack

    ES-130 arrived

My new (to me) sunburst ES-130 has arrived and I've been putting it through its paces. The Good: Finish is superb and attention to detail great. It resonates superbly. I tweaked the truss rod slightly and now it plays well right up the neck. I ended up droping the pickups quite a bit and...

Just ordered Tokai ES 130, the waiting begins..

Sounds like a sweet amp. I like the 2x10 configuration. I have a Trace Elliot Velocette that is a 2x10. I've been playing guitar for a similar amount of time as you, but semi-acoustics have always passed below my radar. I just never tried them or even considered them. Then I borrowed an Epi...

Just ordered Tokai ES 130, the waiting begins..

Your description reminds me of a new ES335 I played in a shop. It just seemed congested and stiff. Do you think it just needs to be broken in or was it just fundamentally a dog? Do other Tokai ES owners feel their guitars have gotten better after the initial breakin period? -Tom
