I have never laid my hands on one but FWIW, here's what I think: price is determined by supply and demand ... since the demand for Les Pauls is higher the lower price for the Explorer should be explained. I own a '85 LS80 as well and it is so nice that I immediately sold my Gibson Custom Shop...
