I purchased a hand made Korina Explorer copy on April 29.

Yesterday I located a Guitar Player magazine article from 4 days ago that is showing a 1958 Gibson Explorer that was sold as 'new' in 1963.

Strange thing is my newly purchased Korina Explorer has the same/similar appointments as the 58/63 Explorer in the Guitar Player article.
Strange that someone would produce a hand built replica of a 1958/1963 Explorer but I'm glad they did and I'm glad I purchased it. :D

the seller listed the neck thickness @ fret 1 as 25mm  and he was pretty accurate with that measurement.

25mm is .984" and by my measurement with a very accurate digital caliper I measure .974" @ fret 1 = baseball bat territory no doubt.

To put that into context the thickest neck listed in the BOTB is a 1958 example which measures .921" at fret 1.

A guitar with a .974" 1st fret neck thickness is far beyond any neck thickness I have experienced, ever.
I'm used to a range of .875" to .900" as a general ball park for Les Pauls, and for the Modernistic types aka Flying V and Explorers I'm used to even thinner profiles; some in the +/- .850" range.

I have to say I am liking the .974" baseball bat neck but this has been a surprise; never thought a neck this HUGE would be this awesome. 8)
And since this is an Explorer replica the neck tenon extends to halfway between the pickup routes so, the resonance and sustain of the instrument are also HUGE with such a large neck profile.

This Explorer copy is a beast.

This may sound dumb, but is that the neck tenon going halfway to the bridge pickup?

yeppers ....... the tenon mimics an original '58 Explorer tenon but extends a bit too far to be 'correct'

an original '58 tenon doesn't typically extend to the far wall of the mortise; a '58 tenon looks more like this photo
Explorer - under the hood.jpg

7 lb. - 14.7 oz.

that is pretty light weight particularly considering
(1) the vintage correct full size body foot print and full size body thickness
(2) the massive neck thickness of .974" @ fret 1 – 1.056" @ fret 11

I have owned several Explorers over many years but nothing sounds like this one :D

Same extremely long tenon in the double cut '59 LP Special hanging on the wall.

Got this baby for cheap a couple of days ago . Like brand new with a weak case .
Don‘t know what it is , nor did the seller .
The slotted bridge screws say Chinese all the way . Have not opened it up yet, as I've ordered inserts and studs from Gottfried .
Can‘t put it down !
Had to raise the bridge slightly and it plays do very well .
I’m in love 😍
