I don't play classical guitar, but came across Mr. Kohno in researching the earliest guitars Tokai made (no relation).

Just thought someone else might find this interesting.

"Upon his return to Tokyo (1960), he buried the western stereotype of Japanese production by not showing the slightest inclination to merely make polite imitations of Spanish guitars. Indeed, he proceeded to challenge them for market supremacy."
