I can find nothing on this Tokai flying V with a really great Tiger sunburst finish, not even a picture online of another one ?. It used to belong to my brother who passed away in 1985, sat in Mums attic along with his 1984 Ibanez fender copy. I only came across them years ago while looking for something else. the finish on the Ibanez has not faired so well quite cracked. Finish on the V is expected ware only.
I have finally decided to get them both back to spec.
After a long fight with the Vs pots they eventually gave in to MMA star WD40. will need replacing.
Is this worth a rewire clean and setup time ? not even sure if that is the serial # 2024212 on the back of the headstock.
I presume it is 1984 ish as well.

Has anybody else seen a tiger burst finish on one of these before ?

Both guitars will be kept due to there sentimental value, but I do not want to be wasting money, as they still look good on the wall.

Was going to attach pics but it just drops in img.img

Regards Paul.

If it is a 7 digit serial number starting with 20 then it is a 1982 model.

Vs were released in April of 1982.

If it is a 6 digit it is later.

Here is a screen shot of the Tokai Flying Vs from the 1984 catalog.

As for value... Hard to say.

I don't see any flame tops for sale, so it may be a more rare color.

It looks like in the 1984 catalog that the TFV80, "1982 Special Model" is the only model offered in that color, CS.

Would help to see pictures.

Here is a black version of the base model.

1982 TFV50 BB for $1,750

And a white one.

1984 TFV50 OW for $820.

Tokai Vees are all over the place in terms of pricing. I sold my rare Michael Schenker model (1984, I think) a few years ago, and it took quite a while, and I had to drop the price a bit to sell.

Of course, the B/W colour scheme stands out like a sore thumb and isn't popular with all guitarists. A flame-top would probably get more interest.
