Well... It gets more interesting. Seems 1981/82 was the period for all sorts of "rare models" for Tokai.

Just discovered with the help of the Spring ‘82 catalog and Google translate that the LS100S OR is different than the LS100S ON.

The LS100S OR is in fact a one piece body where the top and bottom are one piece, whereas the LS100S ON is a one piece top over a one piece back...

Examples:

1011036
1013422
1013435
1013475
1015765
1015903

The "1957 Rare Model".

Thank you Google Translate!

1957 RARE MODEL LS10OS OR ¥ 114,000 GUITAR ¥ 100000 VINTAGE HARD CASE ¥ 14,000 The old red special model that is familiar to Joe Walsh as a trademark for guitar freaks. The LS100S is a reproduction of the standard model of this mahogany 1-piece body, which was slightly manufactured from 1957 to 1958, using the original material as it is. We create sticky sustain and exquisite tone nuances that cannot be obtained with maple tops. Southern rock, blues rock, and hard, the mahogany standard that is the envy of the first appearance in Japan.

JOE WALSH ● Joe Walsh continues to overwhelm the audience on the world stage. It is said that not only the Eagles but also "Hotel California" cannot be talked about without Joe Walsh. At the Nippon Budokan concert on May 18, 1981, it seemed like he was enthusiastic about playing 6 of the 13 songs with TOKAI. Sensitive vocals and guitar play are unique.

Apparently this is based off of a very rare version of the '57 Les Paul that is one piece mahogany painted? I have not been able to find an original’57 on line that is painted red, just Custom Shop reissues. Maybe someone here knows where one is and can post a pic?

*Besides the ‘57 gold top Rick Derringer had refinished trans red that George Harrison later named Lucy.

This settles it for me. S = Special Model, not Solid.

Second time I’ve heard this and this time it’s in writing in the Spring 1982 catalog.

“In addition, the special model, LS 100S, has two optional colors, Old Natural (ON) and Old Red (OR).”

Hello. I have one of the "Old Red" LS100'S from the 1980's Is the information above describing it as a one piece rear body (with a maple top) or a one piece whole body (with no top) made of Mahogany? Thanks.

The bodies on the Joe Walsh models are supposed to be all one piece of mahogany.

Cool., thanks for the reply. The nitro on it is the real deal. one sniff of acetone and it slides off. It is very beautiful

Would be interesting to know if they all have the same batch/lot stamp but these Japanese sellers rarely post internal photos.
