Just wanted to start a thread to try and nail down when the first Springys were made and to preserve any photos of them.

From what I have read on here, the first ones were made in 1977, but I am not sure if I have seen pictures of them. If anyone has pictures to share it would be great to document them here.

Would also like to document the evolution of this guitar line for Tokai at the very beginning.

From what I have read, Tokai was making Fernandes branded guitars with a spaghetti logo by 1977?

If that is true, I am wondering if Tokai started off by making Strats branded "Fernandes" before making ones with their own name on the head stock?

It would be great to have serial numbers to compare.

Fernandes timeline:

1973-74 Traditional Type "Fernandes" Logo --- Kawai --- conducted by Mr. Omote and Mr. Shiino
1975-77 Spaghetti Type "Fernandes" Logo --- Kawai/Tokai --- conducted by Mr. Omote
1978-79 Stone Type "Fernandes" Logo --- Tokai ?
1980-81 Stone Type "Fernandes" Logo --- Changed to 22F --- Tokai ?

marcusnieman, what is that second set of numbers that looks like another serial number? 8000864?

Good eye .... yes that is a second serial number. My assumption was that they put another neck on while the ink was still wet and then swapped it out for the one on it now.

Thanks. I know bluejeannot has a 1978 with the serial. Curious if his is older than this black one?

Wow! Amazing! I have to grab these pics for history.

That is a rare bird, and the earliest Springy I have seen.

Hope it’s ok to copy/preserve these images Cliff.
