Hello, forum
I just bought this broken guitar(attached pictures), in pieces. It is a Tokai SG model with serial number 9203334.
On the pots it says "made in japan".
The pickups are 12k and 12.5k.
I guess it could be a TSG or a SG60 or SG58.
Which model do you think it is?
I'm repairing it because I think it deserves a good restoration and I would like to know something about this model.

Thanks!

Good for you for taking that on. Can’t imagine how that happened. Hope it goes together well.

Based on the serial number it was Made in Japan in 1992.

The lower end models were made in China.

The body is obviously mahogany. Chinese bodies often were not.

So looking like an SG60 or above?

I’ll link a 1994 catalog.

I have seen pickups like these before. I think they may have been on an LS55GT I once had? I will see if I can find that info.

I know this catalog. I have been reading that one and the catalog from 1990 and I guess that the candidates are:

But the pickups with brass baseplate and 12K? Do you think that they are MKII vintage?

MKII fits with the SG60 in 1994. Not sure if any higher models had these though?

It is hard to remember. From the thread it seems I thought they were ok. Maybe a little hot or thin? I tend to prefer a more balanced PAF tone. But It has been 9 years now and hard to remember.

And the difference between those two SGs in the 1990 catalog is that the SG60G had gold hardware.

Not sure when the SG58 became the SG60? Some time between 1990 and 1994 it looks like.

Wow, that's a bad break and on top of that a very, VERY bad repair. There's a lot of work to be done there.

There are lots of YouTube videos of experts attempting restorations of similar damage. twoodfrd has done some great ones on similarly bad headstocks and csguitars has recently done an SG neck repair using a similar method.

Your guitar reminded me of a restoration video I saw on a 1958 Les Paul Jr a guy got from a Goodwill auction that needed a neck repair.

He had it done by a guy named Joel Wilkens of JW Guitar Restoration in Pennsylvania, USA. Looks like he did an amazing repair. Might be another good contact/reference as well as the ones Paladin2019 suggested above?
