Hi all,

Was looking at this strat style Tokai: https://reverb.com/au/item/42885023-tokai-custom-edition-stratocaster-1986-black

There's no positive ID on the model, and I couldn't find the exact model number in the tokai catalogue, but it looked similar to the SD401. Just wondering if anyone could make an ID on this guitar and verify whether it is legit and was actually made in Japan.

Thanks very much

Defining the pickups should tell if it's a 4 or 5 series

Right, thanks for that, just wasn't sure because the neck and headstock looked different, perhaps the neck was just swapped out from the original?

The headstock on Reverb is for the American Market to not upset Fender.

Ah I see, thanks very much - should I expect a roughly squier classic vibe-esque quality for this level of Tokai or have I got the wrong sort of idea in terms of comparison

The bodies and necks are more or less the same across the range with lower models having 2 or more piece bodies. It's the hardware and pickups that make the differences with you models goings to lacquer finish.
Quality wise on a par with the best Fenders, think Fender Japan.
