This has just fell in my lap today, brought it about two months ago, just arrived from japan :D
It is a YAMAKI PERFORMER les paul ,I snapped this up because of the good reviews i have read and they do not appear that much for sale anywhere..
I guess it is early eighties ,maybe late 70s,It has a 2-piece center seemed mahogany back, two peice maple top ,again center seemed,I took the neck pickup out to have a nosey ,In there! There is a inked stamped number"800cs",I was suprised no visible neck tennon, must have made them slightly different at yamaki.
The pickups are unmarked ,have hex pole pieces like dimarzios,I have not got a amp at the moment so i cannot comment on how hot or they sound,,,In the rear control cavity there is what only can be described a metal cover that is screwed into the cavity that covers all the pots & connections,A first again for me ,i guess this is for shielding purposes..

The maple 2 piece top is very unusual ,one half being a little bit birds eye,the other pretty plain.

HERES THE PORN!

I am guessing this is a 80000 yen guitar, going by the body and neck pup cavity code.
This lester is a keeper ,thats for sure :D It is so nice to play ,it does remind of my burnys rlg-90s but a bit darker tone wise when played unplugged .It weighs a ton as well ,more than the burnys,so much hit the scales at 4.8kg or more

Does anyone have any information on these YAMAKI performers, Are they are the same as the JOODEE version..

Nice top on that one :)

Here?s a Yamaki that I spotted back in late November, early December

http://tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=15257&sid=9a9bb6058f30a09e0dda3482b1be252b

It had the two screw truss rod cover & also had the correct ?open book? type head stock

The fingerboard binding at the body end is rounded, not square, which I thought was odd

I should have bid on it but did not :(

Below is some of the Google Translation

There is no warping of the neck. Since rods tweaked so that there is no order, I think adjustable. 3.4㎏ Measuring approximately 3.4 kg in total weight will be. 30 About 30 years ago so things, small scratches, marks will be shot in its own way, such as scratches or fatal to the xylem is not reached. The screws are out, so one can lick Furontoesukasshon one 取Remasen. '79~'80The serial number is missing, '79 - '80 I bought a brand new year, I think that's about a year in production.
Galli, without any noise and I think also the sound does not look too bad Honke Gibson.

**The weight of the guitar was ever morphing; maybe that's why I never bid :-?  :p
I'm not crazy about sellers that can't decide on attributes, which is something that should be done before listing an item ....................

Great guitars, I had one (Yamaki Performer) a couple of years ago off eBay, though not as nice looking as yours. I've also owned, at various times both the Daion and Joodee Performer models. I'm sure they all came from the same factory! The Joodee stood out in my fading memory as my favourite, the Joodee version I know came in a tobacco sunburst and black finishes. They were all on the heavy side I remember. As I recall there were a couple of model options, the higher ones were fitted with real grovers and maybe Dimarzios. I think in the UK they were imported by certainly the Minns Music retail chain and maybe some others, definitely in the later part of the 70s though. I currently have a very nice Yamaki acoustic (Martin clone) YD-35 model, made in the 70s . . . superb.
