Hi, fan of Tokai guitars and have my eye on a 2nd hand one in my local area, wondered if anyone had any info any of the explorer variants? Finding info in the UK is seemingly near impossible.

Someone local is selling this listed as just a Tokai explorer. I've searched for natural, korina, butterscotch finishes but can see no info. I asked for the serial number which is CH 080801448 which I assume is Chinese built. Does anyone have any I go on these models? Would be great if I know a little more about it.

Thanks

Welcome.

That guitar was made during kind of a gray area as far as our understanding of events.

Tokai moved its off shore production of budget priced guitars from Korea to China in 2005.

Tokai seemed to have used a handful of different manufacturers between 2005 and 2010. I have counted at least a half dozen different serial number types during that period, many of them overlapping time-wise.

So chances are that it is legit. And my suspicion of these based on the fonts of the CH serial numbers is that they were made by Fine Corp which had factories in Korea and China.

Hope that helps.

Looks like a nice guitar. Just don't pay a lot for it.
