hi all. i'm still looking for an old springy. a while back i saw a 79' springy. 1954 copy. two piece with nitro and u pick ups. i believe it was an st 80.

what pick ups sound the most authentic to a 54 strat. also, the wood in an st 80 should be ash right? its also two piece, were the original strats two or one piece.

oh well, i'm just trying to get to the original as possible. any input would be great. ken

Hi Ken

The high end Tokai ST-80's were 2 piece centre joined Sen Ash and Swamp Ash - Top of the range ST-100 & ST120 were one piece Swamp Ash.

The E -Series picups on the high end Tokai's were made by Dimarzio and were their VS-1's which were vintage hot. The specs on these were close but not exact to the Fender '54's the coils were wound in a different way. The originals were handwound - Dimarzio's were machine wound. You can tell the difference hence why there is a boutique market for scatterwound pickups e.g Lollars, Bare Knuckle, Kloppman, Heusells, Leosounds etc

There are a few ST-80's up for sale on the web, ST-100's appear very rarely

All ST-80's have E series pickups....all ST 100's also..

ST80 came in 2 piece centre seamed ash and alder,
ST-100 came in 1 piece ash or 2 piece alder,

there have been no ST100's for sale anywhere in the world for at least 9 months...
ST-80's there are a few, but be very very careful when buying from certain places...there are a few sellers with a very "fishy" reputation, and downright dishonest practise's....you have been warned....!!!
