Neck Pocket Cut Outs

Does anyone know what the two cut outs are for in the neck pockets of Breezys and Silver Stars?

So at least in case of the SS this would just be "period correct".

Interesting. My 1979 TE80GS had them too. So it's not just on 70's replicas.


I will pay more attention to which guitars have these cut outs and which do not.
