    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

Hey guys, So, I didn't like the color of the guitar. Found it too yellow and blotchy so I went out to get some sandpaper, primer, black and clear paint. As I was sanding, I notice a whole other finish beneath the top layer... It's the original sunburst over multiple pieces of some kind of...

    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

Natural? I'm not sure. I'm seeing 3 pieces and a nondescript pattern of straight lines. Doesn't seem interesting enough for a clear finish. But who knows? I'm seeing sections at the edges where there seems to be a base layer of black paint along with what appears to be filler. I can imagine how...

Oh wow. ^That bridge tone mod was incredibly easy. I wonder why Fender didn't design it that way. You can just leave it wide open or dial it back however you want.

    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

Right I've only ever heard the Japanese being on-spec no matter what. Which is basically why the original makers employed the "if you can't beat them, join them strategy." Or so, I've read. Anyway, I'm going to experiment, like you said... maybe by wiring the bridge pup to the bottom tone.

    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

So I noticed that this has 500k audio pots when I replaced the pickguard. I like the sound so far and like that I can roll things back for a more traditional or less bright sound. However, I'm wondering if Greco ever did 500k pots for their sss strats... I generally wanted to make this as...

Yup neck So, it's plenty bright. Don't think I want it any brighter tbh I actually sold a mij fender 52ri tele because I thought it was too bright. This is just right

Here's a sound sample - plugged into an orange micro dark head and 8in cab: (Excuse the messy noodling hehe) Honestly, I can't tell the difference between this and my ash/alder fenders...and it’s on the neck pup... Listen to Strat.mp3 by 8livesleft on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/ZmUq7

    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

Mine seems to be painted yellow so I can't see the grain. At any rate, agathis doesn't bother me either way.

Thanks I was wondering about that too. I couldn't tell because the middle was painted

So, it was made in 75 but released to market in 76? That's cool, I guess.

    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

Really? Ok well, Oh ok! Ya I wondered about that whole metric thing. Another site had the same question for a japan strat with stc bridge like mine and they suggested the 10-32... Anyway, mine is a K75 series based on the backplate. Pots are likely not stock unfortunately. I have plans to...

Anyone know where I can get a trem arm? It seems smaller than what's available in the markets Update: Apparently it's a 10-32 size trem hehe

    Some questions on a 75(?) Greco SE500

Hey guys, I got this guitar recently and was hoping to get more info on it. So far, it seems the pickguard, pup covers, pots, switch, saddles and nut aren't original but the neck, pups, tuners, bridge all seem original. I think the body as well. I also suspect this has been repainted...

    Hello Hello

3 way? Hmm...I think I prefer this 5 way better so I have more options. And yes, I have a white pickguard on the way. As much as I want this original tho, I don't think it's over practical to go 100%. So, it's gonna be with some modern changes. Maybe a baja switch later on - I loved it on my...

    Hello Hello

Oh interesting! Well, I plan to order a white pickguard. I've looked at the electronics and it definitely looks like it's been tampered with with some funky wiring. I checked because it sounded like the mid/neck pups were stuck with tone fully rolled off. The pups and pots look stock but the...

    Hello Hello

Hi all, I hope you're all doing ok. Just a quick background, I've been playing guitar since the late 80s and started composing/recording in the 90s. Nothing serious, just a hobby. I've owned a bunch of guitars over the years but find that I gravitate towards a thicker sound so basic...
