Reborn Old Line

I’m a little slow…. For years I thought Reborn Old was a reference to the early Les Paul copies (Les Paul Reborn). But after translating a bunch of catalogs it’s now clear to me that this is an overall slogan, attitude and effort to build copies/replicas/clones of early Fender and Gibson guitars. Th...

Re: Help identifying early 80's Strat

I came across some interesting stuff translating old catalogs. It looks like Tokai was aware that buyers might switch decals like what happened with this ST55-FO, and were borderline encouraging it. I’m basing that off of these translations from 1979 foldout catalogs: ★ Like the old one, (decal) is ...

Re: Spaghetti Logo

I find it interesting that in the 1979 foldout catalogs they basically tell buyers how to remove the spaghetti logo decals... 8) Translation probably a little off, but not by much. ★ Like the old one, the name is on top of the paint. If you scratch it strongly with the claws, it will come off. If yo...

And he was influenced by Professor Longhair (and Fats Domino). Cool.

That makes more sense. Clarence Henry: https://i.imgur.com/eGOJspQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/o1ii047.jpg This is what the internet told me, along with other lyric sites. Bizarre. This tune sounds like Professor Longhair to me, but was apparently written by Woody Guthrie. :o

Les Paul Reborn & Refinished?

Seller does not mention the 6 holes filled behind the tailpiece. Roland unit or some sort of large tremolo installed? Possibly ruined a gold top or something and required a refin? Speculating. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-Tokai-Les-Paul-Reborn-LS-50-w-OHSC-Natural-/175114151999?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_tr...

Re: Vintage Tokai Catalog Threads With Translations

Notes after translating many catalogs now. 1. Would be great to have someone who speaks Japanese go through and help with the rough spots. 2. As early as 1978/79 the folks at Tokai were fanatics about the details in creating reproductions of the Old Models (these words often capitalized with reveren...
